This is the game that convinced me not to buy Civ 6. Any group of developers who would charge $50 for this steaming pile of horsesh!t while looking at you with a straight face could not possibly be able to create a meaningful and satisfying Civ 6. From everything I have read about Civ 6, I am 100% correct.
Some people will argue, "Oh but the DLC makes BE a playable game". No it doesnt. And to those people, I would ask, "If they charged you $80 for the base game, would you have puchased it?" No? Then why would you pay $50 for a bug-ridden, imbalanced, and unimaginative Civ5 space scenario in anticipation of paying another $30 at some point in the future just so the game could be made playable?
BE is best, but I never played #2 or AC. 5 is borderline not worth playing (go figure I reinstalled to give it another chance). Civ 6 i will never play, ever. Just read reviews on it.
the BE tech tree is much more enjoyable than the straight line "everyone needs the same eventually" thing civ 5 has.
Never played or will play 6.
Otherwise, i agree. i kind of miss the "historical basis" i love in civ games so it takes a little getting used to. Once you've adjusted that expectation, BE (with RT dlc) is imo the best civ game out there.
i was hoping for a alpha centauri re-work and they did it marvelously.
BE offers you "build" freedom through tech/policies/personalities/affinities/unit customization/etc. that's missing in VI. The Quests system, Artifacts minigame, aliens, miasma and outposts are also very different features/mechanics compared to previous titles. You would basically play the game for what makes it unique. The fact that one enjoys it or not is another story.
Civ VI is a purer "Civilization" experience. Its tech tree is almost a copy-paste of precious games'. It does have some mechanics that are very different than those of previous iterations (for the best, imo) but all in all, it's the evolution of Civ V: combat is more tactical (a bit less roflstompy), it has better graphics (whether you enjoy its style or not) and almost every decision implies a high opportunity cost (i.e. districts vs. 3-charge builder vs. Wonder, etc., all of them occupying a hex that is not occupied by something else).
Which brings me to the AI.
AI performance appears to be subpar for both games. Probably due to their complexity. Civ VI even had game breaking AI bugs for the longest time (haven't played it since the big patch that was adressing most of the issues). From my experience though, between both of them, i'd say BE has the upper hand, especially once you've figured out the trade/diplo relationships. It "makes sense"... it's playable, for lack of a better word.
To be fair, if both games would not have had the name "Civilization" attached to them, I am certain that the public's response/opinion would've been a lot more positive. They're not bad games, they were just victims or their own notoriety from the get-go
The music, setting, and the flow of the game feels better to me.
I agree , Beyond earth is "Like giants in a playground." compared to Civ 6 on alot of stuff(besides music)
