The Wishing Well is Overpowered
After a year of not playing the game I decided to give it another try and I'm having a blast so far. Many new things to try out and rediscover. I decided to test out the power of the wishing well in the south. I saw a post on reddit about how your last coin is the most lucky and Oh boy... it's powerful.. perhaps too powerful. I got 1,000,000 coins once, then again a turn later, and then another time a few turns later. One turn I got 10,000 peasants, another turn the rebels collapsed, and so on. I was able to accomplish all this in less than 30 turns. I bought almost all the buildings and artifacts I desired. Throwing your last coin into the wishing well seems like a genuine method for success. I even tried manipulating the well by putting all my coins but one in the bank then throwing the remaining one in the well (It worked a few times!). After the initial excitement of getting riches thrown at me from the well continuously i've come to the conclusion that the well is maybe too over powered. It sure is fun when you first discover it (and i would hate for other players not to experience it), but it should probably be nerfed. Maybe it should only give you a huge reward once or the chances should be lowered. Then again, I'm not sure how "balanced" this game is supposed to be. I mean there seems to be plenty of other luck-based rewards in game, but most of those are backed by some sort of risk. Either way.. what does everyone else here think about the well? Too strong or fine as it is?

Isn't this a single player game though? I am thinking about buying it, waiting word about cheavo's but just chiming in that if it's single player, who gives a rip if it's a broken mechanic UNLESS there's competition going on like leaderboards or something I don't see any harm. That's my 2c :)

Yeah, I get what your saying, but I just prefer playing games that have some sense of game play balance. Some players, like me, tend to optimize the fun out of a game. I just can't resist using exploits if I know it will help improve my strategy. But honestly it's a matter of game design philosophy. Is the game intended just for roleplay and crazy exploits are just part of the fun? Or is the game intended to provide the player with both roleplaying and a challenge? I don't mind either of these options, but I generally prefer a good challenge.

Thanks for your thoughts

Hey Lex,

Thanks for taking the time to write this, previously the wishing well had the same odds for any coin thrown, but then I added this little extra code for fun.

I understand it's exploitable though and it shouldn't be, do you think it would be better to remove this extra consideration for the players 'last' coin?

Cheers

Nah, it's actually a pretty cool feature. But I think it would be a better idea if after you get a large reward from the well then you are less likely to get another. Maybe the chance decreases a bit. This could prevent people (like me) from exploiting it. Because 1,000,000 gold or 10,000 peasants once is reasonable, but twice (or a dozen times) is game breaking.

I'm interested to see what you choose to do :D: Keep up the great work on the game!

That's not a bad idea to be honest mate, noted!

Check out the Everything Else section at the bottom of the changelog just released!

Put out a solution for this :)

Nice change! I'll test it out later. That should prevent the exploit.

Cool to see so many user suggested features in the update.

No worries man, cheers for mentioning it here and getting the discussion going.

All the user suggested stuff fits well in the game and improves it! :)
