"The system cannot find the path specified" message

Hi, congrats on the new version! I am getting an error message while playing on lots of screens of the game. I should mention I bought the game during the latest winter sale and had the problem back then too, but forgot about it for a while and was reminded to try the game again when I saw the update. But I still get the error in 0.7.1.5.

OK, so the problem is, on many/most screens it ends the screen by saying "The system cannot find the path specified." I don't know if I'm missing anything there when it says that -- screenshots below -- it just says it a lot...

I did try reinstalling, and also moving the install to a simple path like D:\Warsim (to try to see if my Steam library path was too long, or something weird like that) but it didn't help.

This is on a new game, random races, 25 years, random name, normal difficulty. Windows 7 x64 and I doubt the computer specs even matter :) but let me know if you have any questions.

Side note, the random generators are really cool and I love all the stuff in the extras folder. You know, this is interesting, there's an old version of the game in the extras folder and, hmm...[i.imgur.com]

Any ideas? Or maybe I'm not actually missing anything, either way? (But the message does seem weird...) Thanks!

Hi, firstly sorry to hear your'e having this issue

I've looked into it because I've never seen it before, it's something to do with the command prompt, the code that is used is a windows specific code but you're on windows 7 so it shouldn't be an issue

Try the following.

1.) Open the Registry Editor(press + R, type regedit and hit Enter) .
2.) Navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor\AutoRun and clear the values.
3.) Also check HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor\AutoRun

But I would be careful messing around with registry stuff

That was it! Specifically it was something in HKCU that no longer existed. I never even noticed that I was getting the same message running cmd itself. I use Cmder[cmder.net] for shell-stuff in Windows b/c cmd is awful and I never noticed the message there. It uses cmd but replaces the display so maybe that's why I never saw it.

Edit: You can actually run Warsim in Cmder, which looks great and gives you another way to change font size/face/window size/etc., you can even do a Quake-style console with transparency :)

Awesome, very glad its solved, Cmder looks cool how do you get warsim to run inside of it though? do you open warsim.exe through it? Kind of want to try it out :)

Yeah you just set up Cmder to your liking (there are tons of options) and run it, and then run Warsim.exe through that console. Looks great :)
