I don't get it..?
Finished the game now, having achieved everything.

I liked it, but can't say that I really understood it..

There are some questions on the store page:

Why is this so important for Mantis?
What can be hidden in someone's conversation?
What will you risk to find out the truth?

I still can't answer any of these questions. I don't understand the importance of the conversation between Elisa and Tom, and I don't really get the chat logs with James's colleagues either. What's Mariia's interest in the conversation, and why's Kevin so afraid?

Can someone help me out..?

Unfortunately I think we're all in the same boat.

After finally unlocking the "full access" achievement, I thought that the garbled text would uncover some interesting plot points, but what was revealed was very anticlimactic. I tried reaching out to the game devs as I know they check these discussion posts, but got no response.

I feel like the trailer for the game is misleading in the sense that it gives you a sense of a storyline that just isn't there.

I just read your explanation, lia. Pretty good summary.

Nice writeup lia! You've connected most of the dots, even if we can't be sure they're connected correctly.. :)

At least I have confirmation then that it's not just me missing something obvious, and I'll have to settle with having gotten a nice experience out of the puzzles and atmosphere. It's just a bit frustrating that there's not even answers for the questions on the store page, and I don't even understand why the game's named 'Sorry, James'

Just thought of something.. Has anyone checked if the game turns out differently if you don't open any of the files?

I tried this while we were trying to figure out how to unlock the Full Access achievement - the game plays out as if you did open the files.

Since ELIZA was one of the first computer chatterbot created 50 years ago, the name Elisa (spelled Eliza in the game presskit) may be another hint that Elisa is not a real person.

As for the plot of the game, I understood nothing... At the end of the game I had more questions than theories, because none of my theories adds up to something solid enough... :steamsalty: Pretty upsetting.

Agreed.

I'm a bit dissapointed with the plot, or the lack of it. So you read 50 random chat logs and probably ~3 of them contain hints for you to deduce that Elisa is a chatbot. Frankly there isn't enough context in there for that revelation to mean anything for the player. And those chat logs don't even contain anything interesting, and since the order is random and you only read Elisa lines you don't see the developing relationships or something. The meta content like your coworker and boss are also barely there and don't really add much.

Hey guys.

I'm looking at Lia's write up (good by the way) and noticing that the fully decrypted messages in the large list of Mariia's computer are the same as my playthrough. I naturally assumed that the ones unlocked had linked to how many of the puzzles I completed 'cleanly' . Is that NOT the case?

I knew Elisa was a bot, but I was hoping that I'd unencrypt both sides of the whole conversation and then the pieces of the puzzle would come together and really kick off. But it looks like you can't see all of Tom's messages, right? Bit confused, waiting for more.

that's right, everyone seems to get the same few files on mariia's computer fully decrypted regardless of their prior actions (messaged the devs to confirm this just in case, will let you know of their response)

and thanks to all those who bothered to look through my text ^^

I reached out to the dev's about a month ago and when I asked whether it was possible to decrypt all the files once logged in as Mariia, I was told:

"No, there is no “full” story.

Whole idea was to make user feel himself as Tom and come up with Tom’s replies by yourself. Something like this.

But you are mentioning really good point, that we’ll be probably better to have more Tom’s point of view in Mariia’s account."

ok, thanks for letting us know
