Difficulty curve

What a brilliant little game! It makes me sad to stop playing before completing it but as the difficulty continued to climb my patience started to drop. I soldiered through the annoying ghosts following you around but those cannons from level... 25? 24? I don't remember which level it was. Those cannons beat me after my tenth try. My patience for repetition in videogames is running very low lately.

I don't know why I started this topic.

I wiped my save and thought I could perhaps beat it without upgrading hearts, but the late levels have it in them. As you're saying, those turrets especially, god I hate them, I already had a trauma from the turrets in SMB.. cost me some nerves with heart upgrades. So nah, I give up on that one.
