Graphics-wise Arma (original) is much clearer and Arma 3 even better and not clunky, but 2 bothers me everytime I play it even OA.
The vaseline-smeared look in ARMA2 is weird. I never really found it a problem on OA, but the maps are much less cluttered. Against the AI I'd frequently not see who was shooting me *at all* if they were backgrounded by vegetation.
They've completely sorted it for ArmA3 though - it's much easier to spot people, thank goodness, and the muzzle flashes have definitely been slightly exaggerated with that in mind. A good gameplay decision.
A1 achieved something similar by having everyone fire tracer.
