I'm most likely to evaluate the chances of a mobile port in April.

There is currently no sequel in the works.

I would back up a kickstarter for a sequel

Still no plans for a sequel but I'm genuinely curious; What would you want from a Caribbean Sail 2?

That's hard to answer, but I think I would want more replayability and/or grander story.

What about 3D?
I would love more to this. I come back to play it every 7 months or so.

Something along the lines of this game but focused on Antarctic explorations that was a big thing at the close of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. Fits with this game, as well as the Oregon Trail that (I assume) inspired this game. In addition to the actual sailing, there could be overland stuff/movement.

Getting funding by promising to do either national pride/nationalist exploration (one of the major reasons for this kind of exploration) or science experiments (such as finding out if the magnetic north pole moved or not since the first time it was reached).

I was just coming to say that, the game is really outstanding!
So I would love to see something else made by you,
a sequel?
a similar game but in a different setting (cowboys maybe?)
a DLC expansion?

Anyway, Thank you for this high quality pirate experience. :prlove:

Really fantastic game. It actually inspired me to start on a 3D pirate game for the Ludum Dare Game Jam.

One area that I think could be really cool to expand upon is the crew. Some ideas:
- RPG elements w/ skills, gear, accolades/medals/badges/sashes, etc
- hiring, capturing, and marooning crew members
- motivations (e.g., fame, fortune, revenge) and dispositions (blood lust, pacifist, pyromaniac, etc)
- degrees of rookie/private to grizzled veteran status (earned over time and could affect combat readiness etc)
- larger crew for more variety
- first mate, second mate, dedicated cook and surgeon, other roles
- hostage taking and ransoms

Basically allowing for even deeper crew stories and management.

The message in a bottle design is super cool. It would be really cool if along with the message, you could see the snapshot of that player's ending ship manifest - currencies, remaining crew (if any) and their statuses, food stores, ship type, etc

Even cooler would be if you could resimulate the final moments of that player's run - mutinous standoff, shark/narwhal attack, blasted away by the Spanish/Pirates, etc.

Hell no. 2D is the charm. We want more nuanced gameplay. More strategic options, more minigames. Make the existing minigames have more strategic choice/skill. That sort of thing. An art change wouldn’t be good (maybe more colors idk)

Give us sword duels, boarding actions, fort fights, more variable markets, non deterministic port markets.

A sequel should take what already exists and deepen it. Not just “Caribbean Sail but it’s in space” or something like that.

I dunno about 3D BUT I would appreciate since this is like a NES game to upgrade to SNES graphics. Also add some more neat stuff. Theres another game called Nantucket on steam thats a lot like this game but if you play that you might get some ideas.
