if you are not too far from water you can set them to wander and they will go drink too
Yeah that I know. Or I can force feed them water. You're telling me there is no way for them if you put water in their inventory to drink by themselves?

Who are you?
Animals do drink from buckets, but will sometimes bug out. Letting them wander on your land, they will find water on their own. You can also remove them from your group after you've forcefed them to full and they won't use up your resources. The animal will still be tamed, but will look asleep.
