How Does Kerosene Work?

I am so confused by kerosene. Why doesn't it work like water? How do I get it into an object. I did it once, but now that doesn't seem to be working. It says that a kerosene lamp needs a liquid which is the kerosene, so either there is a new bug or I just don't get it. (Both are equally possible.)

And the kerosene tank? what is the spigot for? I assume it is to maybe use it like water. How do I get it to work.

Honestly, kerosene is much harder than it should be.

you need to craft a kerosene container to carry kerosene. to fill the tank, place it on floor first then open tank and fill it. if you are like me and lazy. buy some kerosene, leave a pile in a spare ship bin to store if need be.

if you need to stock up lanterns you can carry the item by putting it in your on hand slot, just left of the #1 tab. however every time you go in your inventory you will be holding kerosene, can just ignore it though. and push ESC to back out of inventory without dropping the kerosene to the ground.

You can drink kerosene straight from the tank... though I wouldn't recommend it. One drop won't kill you, but it'll make you wish it did.

this doesn't answer my question. I can't get kerosene into a lamp. It says the lamp needs a liquid. It is a kerosene lamp. Is this a bug?

Read Myth's post. You need two different containers to work with kerosene. The tank and the container. One stores a large amount, the other is for moving it from the distillery to the tank and from the tank to lamps.

Okay, I figured it out and forgive me if this is exactly what was explained, but I didn't understand it.

Put the kerosene in your left hand. (Top left of your action bar.)

Go to a lamp which is already on a wall.

The kerosene should still be in your hand.

Click on the fuel area of the lamp.

It should be fill now.

Go back to the kerosene tank and put kerosene back.

Hope this helps someone. I still think it should work like water and not be this complicated.

All explained (thank you Myth!), just wanted to simplify for those not using a tank:

Kerosene -> Hand, Lamp -> Open, put in Fuel slot, turn off, go to Shipping Bin, put the excess back. The excess cannot be stored in the Stash.

4 Kerosene seems to give 8h of light, so it lasts much longer than candles, and gives more light.
