did you play on Gothic mode ?
Not really. I'll give it a try and let you know how it went. Thanks!
It's not that I dislike it. Actually the opposite. However Arcania did get a bit long-winded. There were times when I just wanted to get to another destination but I had to fight my way through monsters. Not just a few which were expected but pack after pack of them.
I enjoy the combat, but endlessy walking backward while shooting arrows got tedious. However Arcania wasn't all like that and most of it was brilliant. I liked it. I forgot just how much until I started up FoS about half an hour ago, and saw the first view of the scenery. The guy standing on the end of the draw-bridge, and countryside behind him. I saw plants growing and couldn't wait to finish the chat to go pick them.
Arcania was a good game and I am stuck to understand why people didn't like it. Having said that I did not play any of the other Gothic games. It has just a few too many monsters which was my fault for playing on hard, as they'd be easier to beat on normal. Other than that only one complaint and a bug one people should be warned about. That place where you jump down a ledge on the main path, and can not get back up. You go down it once as part of the quest and come out and can come back round to it. If you go down though you can't get out because one of the gates on the path ahead is closed.
It's been at least six months since I finished Arcania. My above grumbles put me off the expansion slightly. Yet now I am seriously happy I started playing FoS.
