Gothic 1 Classic

Gravestoner Dec 16, 2022 @ 2:16am
Game doesn't start when booted "X: XD3D_InitPerDx: Can't create D3DX context ! Error: DDERR_INVALIDPARAMS"
Game won't start every time I try to play it, & I get this error message

X: XD3D_InitPerDx: Can't create D3DX context ! Error: DDERR_INVALIDPARAMS

I did subscribe to Union, Community Patch, & DirectX Mods on Steam Workshop, still gives me the same results.

Hey!
I've seen that installation of this file helped someone. Try it - https://github.com/dosinabox/g1_steam_fix/releases/download/20.08/Gothic_Steam_Fix_08.2020.exe

Try this DX11 Renderer - maybe it helps:

Hello everyone!
I have the same problem here.
Tried a modification of Gothic.ini, tried SteamFix, no change(actually there is a change, after SteamFix Gothic 1 has stopped even appearing before the actual crash :D).

Not sure if it is somehow related, I have a laptop Asus ROG Strix (i9, RTX4070, tried both, Win10, Win11), no go for both: Gothic 1 and Gothic 2. But what is much more interesting, it works perfectly on a laptop which belongs to my wife (MSI with i-7, RTX 3060, Win 10), on both laptops Direct X 12 is installed.
Different locations were tried. The only Gothic I can launch is a Gothic 3 but with some issues with controls. I haven't tried DX11 Renderer yet, and I haven't tried a virtual machine on Hyper-V but not sure if Video memory will be appropriately allocated.
Any help will be appreciated!

Have you installed the Union Plugin?
You can get it from here: https://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_651.htm

Hi RealLocutus!
Thank you for the advice, just tried it but still no luck unfortunately.
I'm wondering is there a chance that RTX 40.. videocard is too new for it? It is more rhetorical question.
RealLocutus Jun 26, 2023 @ 12:38pm
could be - but you should try a DX 11 renderer. Then it should work with new gpus.

As far as I can see the renderer is for Gothic 1 while I'm experiencing issues with both, 1 and 2, but yes, tried to install the renderer, still no luck :(
But thank you for your advices!

Use this guide to solve that issue

As stupid as it may be, go into the Gothic.ini file in the system folder where the game is installed, scroll down to [GAME] and put scaleVideos=1 to scaleVideos=0. Let me know if it fixed your problem.

I tried this solution and changed scaleVideos to 0 but it didn't help me either.

I have the same problem. Is there a solution?

Same problem on my ROG Zephyrus (i5 12700H + RTX 4600). No already known solution had helped.

This site always has the latest release of the D3D11 renderer: (dev15 atm.)

https://github.com/SaiyansKing/GD3D11/releases

btw: dev3 is the last one supporting the beautifull but buggy hardware tesselation.
