I need help here i dropped 20$ on this crap that won't play!
So, what you need to do:
click on the "Browse..." button and tell it where the Gothic folder is located. In windows 7, it's 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Gothic '
Once you select the 'Gothic' folder, the 'Install' button should become clickable.
You can only install the system pack if the patch AND the player kit is installed.
You have to choose the game location manually in most cases. Sometimes the patch chooses a wrong folder automatically. You have to make sure you installed both in the right directory.
In addition the system pack often chooses a wrong install directory too. So you have to point the system pack to the right folder as well.
I have the game installed at C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Gothic
I have the Windows 10 Creators Update installed.
Please assist. Thanks in advance.
I had that same problem but with outdated version of the software. Make you sure you have;
G1Classic-SystemPack-1.7
gothic_patch_108k
gothic1_playerkit-1.08k
Thanks! That was the problem. I was trying to use the Playerkit 2.8 that is on the same download page as the SystemPack. A quick google for playerkit-1.08 did the trick.
Ugh! Now when I try to play it, I get an Access Violation. I've tried the attempted fixes found about, which including setting the executable to Windows XP mode, Vista Mode, admin mode, disabling steam overlay and so forth with still getting the access violation. I've tried it on all of the executables. None of the fixes have worked at all.
Anyone know the real solution to that problem? Thank you.
I also believe if your PC tries to show you a message of any kind from any other software this violation warning will pop-up. Make sure nothing interrupts your game, not even the antivirus telling you to update. Don't let windows notify you of anything, close any other software and webpage you might have.
Maybe you had some software running in the back, like Skype?
Thanks. Nothing running in background. I disabled the steam overlay, set the exe to admin and so on and still get the access violation upon attempting to start a new game.
I just tested out the game on another system, though, with an AMD video card and it works fine so the problem must be that the system I'm having trouble with has an nVidia card. I can't think what it might be other than perhaps something to do with PhysX.

Thank you for the Carnage patch. I've also been testing out Freddy's patch and Thiel hater's patch.
