Gothic 1 Classic

Gothic 1 Classic

Late-Game Error Message (mild spoilers)
I've played all the way to Chapter 5, and right before the fifth Shaman, I got an error message that reads:

B: VFILE: Err: -2: Can't find file:
_WORK\DATA\SOUND\ITRW_2H_ORCSTAFF_01.MRM Code: 255

I've gotten crash messages that look something like this several times before, but they never repeated. This time, however, I got the error message four times, all in the exact same place.

Did the compatibility errors finally catch up to me? I hope not; I was so close...

Try verify integrity through library>gothic>properties

Doesn't seem to be an option on Gothic's folder in SteamApps, and none of the folders literally called "library" had anything called or related to Gothic in them. Any one file or folder in particular to try it on?

Never mind, I figured out what you meant. It worked, too! Thank you so much!

Mind if I ask what you did exactly?
Normally you need to disable the sound in the ini file to get past that.

You're welcome, glad it worked for ya.

I had him go through steam library (in not so clear terms) right click gothic to properties. Find the verify integrity. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. From what he stated it sounded like a currupted file.

Gotcha. I always assumed the file was non-existant, so I never thought about verifying the files.

Now I can track the thing down and add it to my Patch Pack if possible to prevent this bug in the first place.

Wait... earlier, I tried it and I got far enough to actually see the Shaman, which is farther than before, and then I turned the game off since I had other things to do and I wanted to finish it later. However, once I did, the error occured again. Re-verifying the files found two files to fix, as before, but this time it didn't fix the problem... mind telling me where the .ini is to disable?

The file is called Gothic.ini. You can find it in Steam/Steamapps/Common/Gothic/System

I believe it was called 'soundEnabled=1'.
Just change the 1 to a 0 to disable it.

You can turn it back on after talking to the shaman across the bridge.

Okay. That worked. Good. I get the feeling that it'll happen again if I enable the sound while still in his presence, but if that happens, I'll just disable it for a bit longer. Thanks!

By the way, Diego still taught me strength. Got it to a natural 100.

Try to play an other saved game, then start your current saved game, I had something similar about a sound in Gothic2/

Nah, found a way around it. If the same thing happens in the sequel, I'll do a quick verification online to make sure and do the same thing.

You mean that bug from vanilla Gothic 2? That was fixed with Night of the Raven, and it didn't occured at a fixed point in the game.
