Fighting Golems, need help
I'm in Chapter 4, and the Water Mages have told me to go talk to Xardas and convince him to assist in destroying the barrier. Before I can get there, however, I have to fight past a trio of foes known as the Golems.

Thanks to the books in the Water Mages' library, the Stone Golem was easy. Hit it with a hammer and it gets stunlocked, mash attack 'till it dies. The Ice Golem, however, is not one I find I can easily down. My character is pure melee (only 10 mana points, and even then only to cast the telekinesis spell on the Focus Stone in chapter 3), and I have only one fire spell to my name. I use it, whereupon the still-alive beast freezes me in place and blasts me with ice until I die. I talked to the Water Mages, and the only spell I could find is a lightning spell that requires the Third Circle. I don't have the third circle, and even if I did that would only work on the Fire Golem which I'm sure is next.

TL;DR; Trying to fight the golems, don't cast many spells, don't know where to get the right magic.

So, any tips?

The Ice/Fire Golems can be a tough nut from what I remember.
Well first of, you can't skip them as defeating them is required to being able to speak to Xardas.

Fireball scrolls are the best weapon for defeating the Ice Golem, though it can be a bit tricky since you don't have a lot of mana and you need to keep your distance.
I believe I just used hit-and-run tactics when playing as a melee character, casting one or two fireballs and then run away a bit and drinking a mana potion when needed.

One of the mages SHOULD sell them a bunch of them. It should also be fine to spent 5 or 10 LP for some additional mana, assuming you don't skip hordes of enemies you could easily take down.

It may take a few tries if you have enough fireball scrolls, mana potions and patience, but it should be doable.

I just talked to Saturas, Nefarias, Riordian, and Myxir, and none of them are selling any spells other than the aforementioned lightning.

Cronos should also sell a couple of scrolls, including fireballs
He is patrolling around the area above the ore mount near the huts and tavern of the New Camp.

If you're having trouble finding him, he's #18 on this map:

Ah, Cronos. I'll hunt him down and get the scrolls.
