Steam, as always, delays the update
(mods not from steam workshop)
I am working on a guide that expands on gameplay, provides tips and tricks and explains mechanics.
Found bugs and irregularities, but nothing big. AI sometimes is not there. Like when you talk to an NPC he keeps that direction you talked to him, making it easier to loot. Don't remember this from the OGs.
Weather can be out of control sometimes and a downside for this modern engine when not taken care of is that when it's dark, it's dark. Which means that NPCs work, sit, etc.. in complete darkness. Would install some torches there to keep the atmosphere alive. Cor Kalom's tent for example, where he brews his stuff, etc...
I've played the old games a lot since release back in the days. This is a really fresh take on G1. It would be a dream if he'd get some official funding and a team to make the game "whole". Implementing numerous story elements that has been cut originally, "repair" all that retconning XD and so on...one can dream ;).
But I can see that this would be something many players would actually prefer to the official remake.
Do you know if he has plans for G2 remaster as well? If not, I'm not complaing. I'm glad to expierence one of my favourite games again that I've already "dried out" in a fresh light.
And for your guide: are you sure it's UE5? Not UE4? Could've sworn I read earlier this year that it was the 4th version in relation to the name "Dmitry Kalyuzhny" which I understand is the modder.
Also you could implement -> since you cannot change control axis -> create a new *.ini -> c:\Users\[you]\AppData\Local\Gothic\Saved\Config\Windows\input.ini
[/script/engine.inputsettings]
AxisConfig=(AxisKeyName="MouseX",AxisProperties=(DeadZone=0.000000,Sensitivity=0.05,Exponent=1.000000,bInvert=False))
AxisConfig=(AxisKeyName="MouseY",AxisProperties=(DeadZone=0.000000,Sensitivity=0.05,Exponent=1.000000,bInvert=True))
Set either both to true, or false, mix, or leave it depending on the preferred inversion. Found this info on some forum last week. It didn't work initially for me, so I had to re-do it a couple of times. It didn't recognize the values.
Also the file gets deleted when you start the game. This however gets absorbed into the controls as long as you don't change the sensitivity! If you do, set the file to "read only".
You should create a guide of your own for the sensitivity thing. Maybe someone will find it useful!
This is a UE 5 port. It was UE 4 initially then it got ported further.
Since Engine is ready it would be possible for him to make Gothic 2. He needs dialogue parser and textures for Gothic 2. That is probably years away.
There are some quirks in the game, most are just exploits and will probably remain in the game because cheese is always fun in Gothic.
Some bugs will get fixed and polished. Do not load saves using E interact key or it will lock the game up. This one should get fixed.
In 1.1 he added mod support. Someone could make a lighting mod for the game or any other mod really. Maybe even their own total conversion.
Regarding funding, I really doubt that one.
And yes this feels like playing Gothic for the first time yet as if you've lived in the Colony for years. Very fun.
For darkness if you don't have any spells you can write Calibrate in windows search bar and choose calibrate display color hit next a couple of times and set brightness higher, it works for 99% of games and makes them brighter. But I get your feedback.
He didn't put any torches because he kept the game faithful to the OG game. Meaning it is almost 1 to 1 copy except some interface. No added loot, no added spawns. Everything like in Original.
Glad you like it!
p.s. if you want modern gothic spiritual successor I personally think it is KCD
oh and weather related you can turn off dynamic weather in the gameplay settings
If you don't set it to "read only" it disappears. Also if you change the sensitivty in game without setting the file to "read only" the changes from the *.ini are reset.
Nah, I don't care about making a guide ;).
Cool to know that a possibility for a G2 port might be happening. But I can understand if not. It's a lot of unpaid work.
Many of the quirks I don't mind. That always was a core feature of the Gothic games ;). Some new ones could be diminished though. Glad he keeps fixing. It's really worth playing.
Thanks for the tip about not using E to load the game!!
I doubt that with the funding as well. I just mean that I believe that a "Gothic overhaul project" would be received much better by the fanbase than the actual remake. Because it's still THE Gothic, without being completely remade. At the same time it could be made "whole", by adding all that material that has been left out. Quentin and his gang for example. Or why no one cared about Y'Berion's death, and the loose ends from tha last chapters, etc...the list is quite long of minor and major inconsistencies. This gets more evident in contrast to G2 (location of the valley, etc..).
But yeah. I too doubt that someting like this will happen. Just saying ;).
For the darkness I just equip a torch and all is good. Just broke immersion seeing folks working/doing things in complete darkness.
Well, if you want to keep the original spirit of the game, you can't port it to a new engine ;). It's a bit of a contradiction. Especially with all the new visual additions. Some torches would've actually helped to keep the immersion up. That would have been more faithful to the OG. Again: I'm not complaining, just saying ;).
Yeah, I saw the options. Turning off the dynamic weather system defeats the purpose of it. I really like it. The beautiful rain and lighting is quite nice. Just needs tweaking. Often it can rain for days. Given how short the in game days are makes it a bit weird.
KCD1 was great! Had the same spirit of an OG RPG from the early 2000s. Really enjoyed that one. Had no time for the second yet. Maybe next year. I'm not in a rush.
Overall I'm very pleased with the Gothic Unreal remaster. It's too amazing to just call it a "mod". It's projects like these I'd wish would get more recognition from the official side to help getting the fans what they actually want.
Not to keen about the actual remake so far. Too early to tell though...we'll see.
