The "Access Violation" error, comes from when a game attempts to make changes to files from within the x86 folder. Windows requires admin rights for most programs to do so. Unfortunately this means you need to either run every Steam game you own "as Admin", or go into your Steam options and stop downloading to the default folder for Steam games in the x86 programs folder.
So long as you install anywhere that is not within x86 programs, you are fine.
The Steam overlay has been disabled all the time, so turning it off doesn't fix the problem...
Verifying game-cache or re-installing doesn't fix it, either.
It's always 'Access Violation' in d3dim700.dll.... :(
Edit:
I've got it working again!
Basically all I needed to do was to bypass starting Gothic via Steam (Buttons in Steam UI or Gothic.exe) by installing the Player-Mod-Kit (http://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_34.htm) and then using GothicMod.exe or one of the GothicStarter*.exes.
downloaded the file when i went to install it...it opened but the install button was not activated idk...op sys win7
dang i give up *kicks steam in the bum for not having a working game in the steam client*
not the only one either and this is not the only one that has issues *sighs*
@lazee you need to choose the Gothic folder in your System. SteamApps->common->Gothic.
After that you can install it. Now you click in the Gothic folder on the system folder and now you can run the game with the data "GothicMod.exe"
After that i was able to play.
If you're reading this and the game isn't working for you either and you want to try that Gothic Mod, just make sure you install it to the folder Gothic's in. That's: Steam\steamapps\common\Gothic.
