How To Fix Gothic 1 Startup On Windows 10
Sorry I made this more drawn out than it had to be, I wanted to be as straight forward as possible. <3

So I noticed that Gothic 1 wouldn't launch for me in windows 10. Despite using the power of google, I still could not find a fix that actually worked! So here's what I did to get it running...

1. Launch Gothic through Steam (nothing should appear to happen)
2. Open up Task Manager and go to the "details" tab
3. Find and right click "GOTHIC.EXE"
4. Select "Analyze wait chain" (A window should pop up with "GOTHIC.EXE" at the top and another program listed immediately under it)
5. Leave "GOTHIC.EXE" blank and select the other program, then hit "End process".

Gothic should launch for you after ending the conflicting process, but it will soon crash due to permission issues. To fix this, all you have to do is run it as an administrator...

1. Find Gothic in your steam library
2. Right click and select "properties"
3. Select the "Local Files" tab and click "Browse Local Files" (Your Gothic folder should open)
4. Open the "System" Folder and inside will be the application "GOTHIC"
5. Right click "GOTHIC" and select "Run as administrator"

(If you have a Gothic shortcut you can just right click that and run it as administrator as well)

Now Gothic should run without any problems! The only thing is that you will have to apply this fix every time you restart your computer; I've not found a way to avoid that.

Gothic 1 straight up reboots my computer and I still haven't found a work around. Nor have I found anybody with that particular problem.

I guess a fatal error occurs during the start which make you windows to restart.

You can disalbe the automatic restart and then you see the BSOD (blue screen of death).

But of course it wont help you run gothic. Your error is highly unusal and only a few reports happened about this over all the years since release.

This could happen if you graphics card is damaged or your memory is faulty. But then you should get crashes on other games as well.

I had my gothic one playing fine on windows 10. I had all the latest updates aswell but then suddenly it crashed with no message. After that i can't get even my gothic two to open anymore. If I try to open and look at the taskmanager it will only appear there for a second and then dissapear. Reinstalling everything hasn't worked, anyone else had such problem ?

See guides section. There is steps for running it in modern PC's guide with links to patches.
