Gothic 1 Classic

Gothic 1 Classic

Access violation >.<
Its been awhile gothic :)
wanted to play gothic one again but it always gives me the access violation immediately after starting a new game
Tried disabling steam overlay, starting in xp compatibility mode: nothing
when I google is all I get is old forum threads from 2010/11 and none of the links are still working( there used to be a workaround for the problem which is apparently caused by Nvidia graficcards
Im using geforce GT 630
I already updated the drivers and Nvidia was supposed to have fixed the driver problem way back but the "fixed" drivers are not compatible (and theyr old as hell)
So im at a dead end hoping that someone here has solved the mysteries

I think getting past the access violations is the hardest part of the game :D

Same here, just tried to launch for the first time but it's not just NVidia I have an Intel HD 4000 in my lappy. Thought maybe it was an admin rights thing<some games want it checked on the shortcut> even though I'm an admin account but with the games shortcut/properties there's no run as admin checkbox. I'll check back if I find something.
SinSmooth Jun 9, 2014 @ 3:47pm
Ok So I got into the game by going to Program Files(86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Gothic/system then right clicking the Gothic.exe and giving it admin rights then making a shortcut off of that. Before I would get the error on the new game loading screen so, so far so good.

unfortunately doesnt work for me either
another thing is that I cant start the game through the .exe or its shortcut but only through steam
otherwise I get an application load error
and after checking the box to give it admin rights I still get the access violation when I start a new game

Maybe try to disable the steam overlay in steam options then try to start the exe from the folder. Seems there's a ton of different issues for everyone, I got lucky so figured I try and help someone else.

Run your games as admin, change their installation folder to anywhere not within the x86 program files folder, and disable steam overlay.
GoodGirlErika Jun 10, 2014 @ 2:49am
I did all that
-start as admin
-its outside of the programs x86 folder
-disabled steam overlay
- win xp compatibility mode doesnt do anything either
-even verified gamecache and 3 filed were missing/corrupt but still got the same problem
- changed the video scaling in ini file from 0 to 1 (which was supposed to be able to help bud didnt succeed)
-and the thing thet confuses me the most is still that I cant start gothic from the exe istelf(application load error) but only thorugh the seam library

gonna try using a windows xp virtual machine sometime today

Well, an access violation on Windows almost always points to a program attempting to access a file in a location Windows deems to require higher security or Admin priviledges. An Access Violation is when Windows simply refuses the program access in the light of security.

If it's not the game causing issues, it may be your drivers.

In almost all cases, simply running as Admin would fix the problem. Compatability mode should not be required, and in almost all cases, is not suggested unless all else fails. Make sure you are not running the program in compatability mode when attempting different fixes for the problem. Often compatability mode causes more issues than it helps.
GoodGirlErika Jun 10, 2014 @ 11:41am
well I do think it is a problem of the game because the gothic games are the only ones getting this problem this much and as I repeatedly stated all current suggestions are not working and I would even say my main problem is the application load error when I try to play gothic via the .exe

Gothic I and II had this problem since they were released. It only happened occasionally for me, like 1 of 100 times I was running the game. Try getting help on the worldofgothic-forums - they also have an alternate launcher for Gothic I and II that solved a few issues with newer OS.

Try next thing: when Steam is loaded rename or delete file "GameOverlayRenderer.dll". Hope, this will help everyone. But get this file back after playing Gothic for Steam will be reinstalling itself on next start without it (not for long but annoying).

Thing that will fix it ( At least for me)

Go to
http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1305090-gothic-%C3%BCber-steam-startet-nicht

4th post. Download the patch and playerkit. First install the patch in the correct folder (steam - steamapps - common - gothic) Install the playerkit in the same folder. Then manually go to the folder -> System - double click the Gothic starter.exe. Not the regular one or from steam itself.

Cheers
