Report a translation problem
so my adivse is if u find a game on steam look elsewher 1st u may get a better buy and try looking for playable demos as well...i no longer buy older games unless they have one to play.

Just launch the gothic.exe in the installation folder as administrator and see how that works.
It's the most common working fix.
Also be sure to disable the Steam Community Overlay for the game.
But i also had to give admin rights to the game and i agree that Steam should give more hints about issues like that.
It may be entirely possible you don't have to disable it anymore when you're using a workaround to start the game. I never tried it out.
Afterwards i installed Player Kit Mod/Patch (1.08k) to force widescreen high resolution.
