Gothic 1 Classic

Is this game worth it?
I was planning to buy this game, but the game is too old, and requires mods to make it playable, which is no problem with me. But it seems lots of people had difficulties achieving it.

Absolutely worth it.
Might most likely need mods though, true. It is over 20 years old after all.
Also, controls are commonly a problem for new players. They work best with only keyboard.

There's a lot of guides explaining how to mod it properly, but a lot of them are outdated and face problems, can you point me to one that is working and reliable?

Gothic Community Patch[github.com] and Union would do the trick (at least major part of it), plus Union has alot of plugins to futher enhance the experience.
It depends. If you like great games then yes, if not then no.

Then you should try it. It's not like you MUST install mods becasue for many people it works fine just after fresh install. Game is old but few years ago got a patch that should make game works on modern systems (Windows 7 - Windows 10), I heard there are problems with Windows 11. Anyway, you said you have no problems with mods so it shouldn't be problem. Game even has a steam workshop so installing mods is easy.

Only controls can be difficult for new players. They are different than in other games, there is no tutorial so it can feel weird at the beginning but once you will be familiar with controls, there will be only pure fun from playing.

Since the game is on a big discount just give it a try. And if you will like it, there is also Gothic 2 which basically has the same gameplay like gothic 1 but everything is improved.

Didn't notice there was a workshop. So I just ignore the guides leading me to other mods outside steam?

Frankly, I only use the workshop.
Got everything I needed right there.

Alright, can you suggest me some of the best mods especially that as playable as possible. Thanks in advance.

Well, I don't do much in terms of mods but

Ninja
Union – patch for Gothic 1
Gothic 1 community patch
Texture Patch by Artemiano
Union Thief Helper (Gothic 1)

My entire list, same order as in the launcher. Honestly, I am not even sure if I would actually need all of that to have this game playable but it works with all of them and I like "never change a running system".
Texture Patch is simply graphical and the last one is of use when you want to open locks as you need to solve a combination of left/right first. Thief Helper shows how far you have been with the right combination.

I just started playing it 3 days ago for the first time. I'm not really a fan of games older then like 2012, except for GTA SA. Im currently at 13 hours because i can't stop playing.
This game is amazing.
Sadly there are some buggs, instal some patches like Union, it really helps!
