assertion failed while trying to load a save
Hello everyone. Gothic 1 was one of the favorite games of my childhood, so after I've found out it was on Steam, I couldn't resist the temptation to relive my memories and remember the past. Unfortunately, I have encountered an annoying issue: after having entered the third chapter, the game works well only until you leave it: after that, when you restart and try to load a save from the main meny, the saves prior to the third chapter work nice, while trying to load the later ones I get this message:

Assertion failed.
File: D:\dev\gothic\current_work\ZenGin\_Dieter\zArchiver2.cpp [line 715]
Assertion: sSize<READ_BUFFER_SIZE
Reason:0

Can anyone explain me what does it mean, what is wrong or how to fix it? My system is Windows 7 x64, the game version is 1.08k_mod (with the SystemPack). Thank you.

jumping is tied to framerate so if you experience shorter jump that means your game works faster than it should, if you want to experience "correct jumps" you should cap your FPS to 30.

the assertion failed is simply ZenGin bug, it happens without renderer as well, it just means that you or some saved NPC have too much items and the archiver can't read them due to hardcoded string limit.

Hey!
Try to install Union in Workshop (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2787491081)
And save your game saves on your computer before. Put them back after Union installing and load the game. Should work.

Tried it this way: didn't work: the same issue still appears.

Yeah DX11 mod can corrupt saves but its your own fault because DX11 is completely optional.

Regarding the corrupt save in chapter 3. Install union and then go into chapter 3 again. Already corrupt saves wont work no matter what you do.

Oneeyed, thank you, it worked.

d3drenderer messes up savegames sometimes, specifically the world file in your savegame folder.
To fix it you need to stop using the renderer, start a new game, save on a fresh slot, then replace the corrupted world file with the one of the new savegame. This will reset the world and your char, but keep your quest progress. Now use marvin mode to bring your char back to where he was (check the log file in the savegame folder to see his old stats).

Weisserrabe, does it also mess up with physics in some way? I noticed that jumps with acrobatics are much shorter than expected.

it should not change the physics, maybe you changed another parameter by accident?

Jakub, Thank you, it looks true to me, having a habit of picking up every item I can, although it's quite strange that it never happened to me before. Just for curiosity, do you also happen to know what the limit is?

Yo, big thx. It was the maximum items I kept. Holy. Thank you so much! It doesn't crash anymore and I will sell the most of the weapons now.
