Why can't I open the castle storage door after getting the key?
I got the key from Gomez but nothing happens when I try to open the door. I'm trying the door to the side of the castle that you reach via a short ladder. Is this the right door? Why won't it open?

Thanks.

Gomez key opens a door in the building where he is in it and not some door outside that building.

Ah, I thought it was supposed to be the door around the side of the castle entrance, near where Scorpio and his men practiced.

Thanks, I'll keep looking!

Ok, I'm still at a loss. There is a door upstairs in the castle that is locked, but it won't open either with the key.

Can you tell me where the store room door is located?

Thanks.

There are 2 keys named Gomez' Key. The open 2 doors inside the building with the big tower. If you only have 1 key than you could open only 1 of the doors. You have to keep looking for the second key.

SPOILER: The second key is in Engor's Room if I remember correctly.

I have a single key that says it opens both Gomez's chests *and* a storage door, but I can't find this door. I haven't run into any other keys.

Sorry somehow I thought we are talking about Gothic 2.

In Gothic 1 Gomez' Key opens Gomez' chests and a door in the basement.

To get into the basement you have to kill or rob Bartholo. He has the other key to the basement door.

I personally never run into this problem because I kill everyone in the old camp in chapter five so I get all keys and never bothered from whom I did get what key.

Hmm, weird. Pretty sure I killed and looted Bartholo too. Oh wait, is he the one with the lute? When I looted him, he had like a million lutes in his inventory so I just closed it.

I'll have to go back and check his body, assuming he's still there!

The bodies are gone. Guess I'll never know. :-(

To satisfy my curiosity, do you happen to remember what is in the storeroom? It's killing me...

Stand in front of the door. press b on your keyboard and then type in quickly "marvin" without the quotations marks. press b again and marvin mode is activated.

Now press k and your character will move a few steps forward through walls, doors etc.

After you have left the basement press b again, type in "42" without the quotation marks and press b again and you end marvin mode.

Please note saving while in marvin mode can corrupt your save game so don't save.

Thanks! Now I got to see what was there! Too bad it was pretty much nothing! :)

I also used the cheat to bypass a door upstairs, in the room next to Gomez's room. It leads to several floors with a lot of chests, and eventually up to a tall lookout tower. Not sure how you gain access to this door normally though.

I don't remember exactly but you can enter by finding the key inside the castle or by taking it from somebody. I only remember I looted these chests in every single one of my playthroughs because there is a good protection amulett in there which gives you +15 against weapons.

Most times you don't even need the cheat to go through doors because you can simply force your way through textures by positioning your character sideways to a door or gate and then press one of the sideways keys. On texture edges and with persistance you can force your way through it. Takes a bit of practise, though.
