English dialog options in german game??
Hey guys.

I installed
this patch: Gothic Patch 1.08k,
the player kit: Gothic1_PlayerKit-1.08k.exe
and the system pack: G1Classic-SystemPack-1.0.exe

on my german version of the game.
Now almost everything works fine, I just have two little problems:

1. If I start the game from steam, it starts GothicStarter.exe. Now when I klick "Spiel starten" (start game) it runs GothicMod.exe. If I try to start a new game now, I get the access violation error. If I start GothicMod.exe manually, I can play the game without any problems except the following:

2. Everything in the game is german (which is good, because language is set to german in steam) except the dialog options (subtitles are german again). Why is that? This also occures on a clean installation without playerkit and systempack.

Problem #1 is not so bad, but I want to have german dialog options!!
Anybody knows a solution?

Greetings

Edit: Okay, it's not just the dialog options. To be honest, it's everything except the subtitles and the menu...
Would be nice to find a solution.

1. or run Steam\steamapps\common\Gothic\system\Gothic.exe or delete(rename) steam/GameOverlayRenderer.dll
2. install the English version, copy, install the German version, compare.

compare what? the data folder? the _work folder? and then what?

Download the english version of the game.
Go to \Steam\steamapps\common\gothic\Data\.
Copy speech.VDF.
Then right click on the game in the library - properties - langauge - german.
Wait till it finishes the download (obviously) and then replace speech.VDF with the one you copied earlier.

And there are also video files in \gothic\_work\DATA\video\.
It's either german or english here. No subtitles. Same principle as with the speech file.

You probably missunderstood my problem.

What I have: German voice, german menu, german subtitles. English NPC/Item names, english journal, english dialog options etc.

What I want: Everything german.

What I tried:
#1: Install gothic german -> play -> voice german, dialog options english.
#2: Install gothic german -> install patch 1.08k -> install player kit -> install system pack german -> play -> see #1
#3 Install gothic german -> change language to english -> change language to german -> play -> see #1
#4 Install gothic german -> change language to english -> copy game folder -> change language to german -> paste speech.dat form english version -> everything english, except menu (what was to be expected -.-)

oops) yes.
strange. {LINK REMOVED} it makes the game all in German. I checked.

yeah, strange indeed. I'll try to delete all local data and reinstall the game... we'll see if it works... but thanks for your efforts! :-)

Did you choose the german version while installing the SystemPack? Because the SystemPack is made for many different languages. Try to uninstall the SystemPack and install it again if you didn't. I just installed the same patches a few minutes ago and my game works perfectly.

no. german is my first language, so i installed the german version. now before i started the game the first time, i installed the patch, the playerkit and the system pack german. then i started the game and had english dialog options. then i tried out, what the different exe's in the game directory do, uninstalled the system pack and playerkit and reinstalled it. with no different result.then i tried changing the game language to english and back to german. again installing playerkit and system pack afterwards. still the same language mix. in the meantime i played several ours like that. in this moment i have deleted all local files, after kopying the game folder to my desktop and download it again. i'll try playing it without any patches or packs when it's done.

I have exactly the same problem. I tried y3000's solution, and it didn't work.

Funny thing is, when I reinstalled everything and put all the patches (1.08k, PlayerKit, etc.), and started for the first time afterwards, it magically worked - everything was German. But now I started the game again and it's back to English. What The Eff!

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have Steam set to English, I don't know. But this is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Okay, I found the culprit - putting an in_extremo.vdf from the net into the DATA folder changed all the texts to English, whyever that is. I found another solution to get back In Extremo, so there's that. All good now.
