Gothic 1 will not start on Windows 11

This game used to work on my windows 10 but ever since I upgraded to Windows 11, this game keeps crashing to desktop when I click on launch, can anyone help.

Hey!
I have Win 11 and it works OK. Actual Steam version of Gothic is adapted to modern versions of Windows. Just make sure, that you choose in Beta branch "None" and everything should run OK.

Ummmm, None is its default setting and it still doesn't work. I keep getting an access violation error code.

For example, if i switch it to "original" i get an error. Try to uninstall the game and install again. And verify the integrity of the local files. And delete the folder before installing it back

I delete the game folder too, I know how this works. Its just not working. What is this access violation code?

Faced the same issue running the game on windows 11. The following steps helps me to resolve the issue:
1. Switch to the "Workshop beta" (game properties -> betas -> select "workshop beta")
2. Install Union patch for gothic 1 from workshop
3. When launching the gothic via steam - select "Mod launcher". There you'll see a list of modes installed from workshop and launch button

im pretty sure, your PC case wont be able to run the game.

2 years later, I've spent maybe two hours trying just about everything I've found on reddit and this is what works. Hope you're doing well, you saved my sanity!

Funny thing for me I am struggling on a windows 10. The dev said beta none should work on modern system, I can't even launch game. While if I directly download original, without any modification it will work, but the screen looks like a VM inside the game and I can't install more mods. Still struggling to make it work
