Gothic 1 Classic

Access violation
Hi, so Ive been trying to get gothic to run on my pc for the past two days, and have only gotten as far as to launching it from the starter and hitting an access violation error.

I have installed the 1.08k patch, player kit 1.08, player kit 2.8, and the 1.8 system pack. I have also patched gothic exe with the 4gb patcher and installed dx11 clockwork mod.

Ive added gothic, gothic mod and gothic mod starter as a DEP exclusion, and changed the windowed mode from 0 to 1 in the ini file without any luck. All solutions Ive found online havent worked and Im just stumped lol.

The steam version already got patched to run on newer Windows versions, technically you don't need to install anything for it to run.

yeah, I've been trying to use the GOG version too. Just now, I did a clean install with the newest steam branch (the one with the patches included), but I still get an access violation error. I also tried disabling DEP for the exes in gothic/system too for the new clean install, and it still doesn't work.

This crash is related to DX11 mod, which is DDRAW.dll.

Check if you have ddraw.dll file in Gothic\system folder.

Hello, everyone,

I registered specifically to help all those who are still struggling with the Access Violation problem in Gothic.
I only proceeded as described in another thread by @Schatten

Install Gothic as administrator
Install Gothic - Patch 1.08k as administrator
Install Gothic - Playerkit v1.08k as administrator
Install Gothic - Playerkit v2.8
Install Gothic - LargeAddressAware Hack
Install Gothic-Union 1.0k
Install Gothic - Definitive Edition 2.2.8
Unfortunately that still didn't help. But I had always thought that it could be my AMD RX Radeon 6800XT graphics card, which was new at the time. I didn't play Gothic regularly back then, but I still knew that it worked on my RX Vega 56.

What helped me now was downloading this DX11 renderer:
https://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1546222-Yet-Another-D3D11-Renderer
Extract the content of the ZIP file into the Systems folder
overwrite files

The Gothic-Starter.exe complained that the checksum no longer matched and that there would definitely be a crash, but instead of a crash it just worked without any problems
Maybe other AMD users are still having problems with the newer cards and this is a possible solution.
Have a good time!

This gives me hope, thank you so much for the answer! I'll try it later, but did you also turn off DEP for gothic?
