How is this game compared the the Elder Scrolls games?

I'll answer my own question.

The entire Gothic series is outdated garbage. The Elder Scrolls series has set a bar of quality, and anything else is really a joke.

Gothic 2> Gothic 1> Oblivion> Gothic 3 > Skyrim

Havent played Morrowind enough to be able to judge it.


As an action game

Oblivion> Skyrim > Gothic 1 > Gothic 2 > Gothic 3

Oblivion and Skyrim are just good sandbox for modders to experiment with. If you take the standalone games, they are bloody awful. I've never managed to enjoy a Beth game without mods.On the other hand, I can still play Gothic 1-2 vanilla without getting bored to hell.

Without this game Elder Scrolls wouldn't be the way it is today. Morrowind was inspired by gothic, and that is the reason they took the direction they took. In fact, Gothic inspired a bunch of RPGs. One of those examples is the Witcher series.

It may be old and outdated now, but back then it was one of the best out there.

Anyone who was born after Gothic 1 and did not play it as a child will say Elder Scrolls is better. In fact, Gothic 1 and 2 (excluding 3 which was a mess due to companies splitting up) are some of the best games in the genre. No one talks about it because who played them are now grown-ass men with families and no time to chat it on the internet. I love the Elder Scrolls game but Gothic will forever be the boss. Morrowind which was released 1 year after Gothic 1 was a good game but mainly focused on the open-world whereas Gothic was a true RPG game story-driven and anything you wanted. If you wanna compare Gothic to something, the closest thing is Morrowind. Don't even put Skyrim in the topic. While it is a great game it released 10 years after and is an adventure open-world RPG.

As to the topic... both game series have their charm AND flaws. I really like the Elder Scrolls series but, it was riddled with issues... some of which, modders were able to fix. But, Gothic series has it's own issues too. Saying one series is better than another is purely subjective. The newer Elder Scrolls game in the series certainly have some better graphics but, it's also a newer game so... that's kind of to be expected.

agree, skyrim had better melee animations. meanwhile, fighting dragons and forging swords was back in gothic 2, and cities made of dozen of houses were in gothic 3.
