Gothic 1 won't work on Win 10!
Hello,
My friend said that Gothic games are best rpgs he has ever played so i thought I might give it a try. I bought the whole saga but the first game won't start and it's poping in the processes for a second and the dissappers (I assume it crashes). So I search the internet for answers, tried installing patches (gothick_patch_108k.exe) system packs (G1Classic-SystemPack-1.8.exe) and player kit (gothick1_player-1.08k.exe). After installing all those 3 mods, a window would pop up with a button to start the game, but after I click it nothing happens :/ Also tried installing DirectX 11 but i would get an error message stating: Your gothic executable does not match the checksum[...] checksum: 0. Im starting to think about refunding the game... My specs: 256gb ssd, 1tb hdd, Msi gtx 1080 gaming x, intel core i5 6500, 16gb ram ddr 4, Msi B150 motherboard, and 64bit Windows 10 home.

Try running GothicMod.exe directly from Gothic/system folder.

Try running it in compatability mode, and maybe disable fullscreen optimisation. That worked for me

I tried running GothicMod.exe with Gothic Steam Fix installed but it didn't work. And how do I run the game in compatability mode?

Ok, I figured how to run it in compatibility mode but it still doesnt work. Any more clues what might be wrong?

The one that worked for me was this one:

https://github.com/dosinabox/g1_steam_fix/releases/download/19.12/Gothic_Steam_Fix_12.2019.exe

I'm sorry, it can be a pain. Try this:

If nothing works I would perhaps suggest refunding Gothic and buying Risen 1 instead

Ok so I think it works for now at least...

What I did was:
1. Install Gothic 1
2. Install the Gothic Steam Fix (https://github.com/dosinabox/g1_steam_fix/releases/download/19.12/Gothic_Steam_Fix_12.2019.exe)
3. Change "scaleVideos=1" to "scaleVideos=0"
4. Change GothicMod.exe compatibility mode to Windows XP and disable fullscreen
5. Restart PC (for some reason it didnt work without the restart XD)
6. Run GothicMod.exe as administrator

And so my adventure with the Gothic saga begins. It took me like 2 days to set up but I hope it will be worth it. My expectations are pretty high right now tbh

That sounds like the most painful experience to get a game working ever! I hope you enjoy it after all that, are you playing in fullscreen?

Yes, even though I disabled it in the first place, it seems to work fine with fullscreen
