The Wiki tells: https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Gothic/Controls
Yes, they are odd, but not anymore if you get used to them before diving into the game too much. Else you run into the situation that you will need to learn the controls suddenly.
Generally, opening the settings and activating the alternative keyboard settings is a good idea, because those are more like Gothic 2.
I played Morrowind (and its predecessors, Arena and Daggerfall) and of course the Baldur's Gate, Icewindale, Torment, and these games I played alomg with the first Neverwinter Nights (which in my opinion is one of the best games ever made with so many user mods and graphic improvment packs, special fan made swords and armor, etc - yeah, I was a huge fan of Neverwinter Nighs, the first one. Which I think is comimg to Steam soon). If you never played it, buy it. Like Gothic, it is dated graphically, but that doesn't matter too much to me.
When I started playing RPG's for the computer in 1988-1989 (yeah, I'm old!) the people looked like stick figures and all the walls were the same - and yet, my imagination filled in so many details that they explained in those old 'Dungeons and Dragons' TSR Gold Box games. Really old now!! But the graphics were so basic then. I think we had 16 colors on the latest monitors in the mid-late 1990s it was called "Enhanced graphics card" No brand names like Nvidia, just graphic cards on board the computer.
So, I am going to keep trying to learn this game (I may have to patch it, but then my trainer won't work!). I read great reviews of Gothic 2 and I bought it first and then decided. I really should start with the first Gothic to understand their world. I'm learning. Thanks for the help everyone! Best wishes to all. I may ask more questions! :)
