Help with sword moves

Hello there,

I'm playing Gothic 1 for the first time, and I managed to config the keyboard/mouse as I wanted, but now I'm facing a problem. Every time I want to use a weapon like a sword, I use; Ctrl + Up. This makes my character advance one step towards the enemy. (while attacking)
Can I be in a complete stop and use my sword? If so, how exactly?

I have everything instaled. I also tried default and alternative keyboard sets.

I didn't fully understand the issue. But Autohotkey might revolve everything.

Let me try and explain better. Every time I swing the sword to attack an enemy, my character performs an extra step. Because I use CTRL + Up, the Up makes him move forward.
I would like to know if there is an option to attack while not moving.

Press A or D(or left/right arrow) while holding Ctrl, to swing. If you attack in specific rhythm your swings will be more fluent. At some point you can also learn how to use one/two-handed weapons more effectively. It will cost 10 and 20 skill points(for 1 and 2 lvl correspondingly) and provide an increased chance of critical hit aswell as speed up your animations a bit and let you make some simple combos.

So what does CTRL+Right or CTRL+Left do? Normally it should let you swing your sword sideways and if you use it you won't step forwards.

Of course, makes perfect sence! I didn't even though about it, I assumed Ctrl + Up was the only way to attack.

Ctrl + up (hold ctrl then pressing up) but if u press up after the end of the movement the hero will interact with some usefull movement with 100% critical dont forget to hold ctrl ( especially if u learned lvl 2 one handed weapon)

Thanks for the tip. I just got lvl 2 with one weapon. I have yet to try the new combo.
