This Control Scheme Is Gonna Kill me
I bought the gothic pack (1-3)
mostly for 1 and 2
and after installation I got a access violation error which i fixed with compatablity mode change
I got to play the first one then and as soon as I started I was introduced to the most horrible
control scheme I have ever seen in my life and I have played mobile ports on pc which have the most weird ass controls
This control scheme makes me do everything with a keyboard but wait its a 3rd person rpg
they dont explain jack not even how to pick up stuff
I was wondering if there is a mod to get simplified controls making use of mouse for attack
and block if its in the game
And no dont recommend me to get used to this control scheme its horrid.
Please help me out I dont want to refund this withut giving it a shot.

Hey there first of all I would like to recommend this fix if you havent already installed it http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1340357-Release-Gothic-%C2%BD-%C2%97-SystemPack-(ENG-DEU)
This will make the game more modern pc friendly.
You dont have to use keyboard only. Even if the control menu says that the action button is left ctrl you can use the left mouse button + forward to pick things up and fight either with swords, bows or magic. You can also use left click+left or right buttons to make side slashes with weapons. Put the movements controls on W A S D and sideway movements on Q E and interact with object, people with the mouse one button+ W as i explained earlier. You will get used to it no time. Dont refund the games. Gothic 1 and 2 are one of a kind that require a short amount of time to get used to. Have fun and you can ask me anything about the 3 games. Give it some practice, it is worth it for the game.

If you cant do it this way I can recommend a tool that enables one click action instead of two, but it is in german and I have never tried it on an english batch of the game. But since it a tool it should work in every version of the game I suppose. https://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1488703-Tool-Gothic-One-Click-Action
With this mod you have to use only keyboard naturally.

The manual explains how to pick up items: http://mikesrpgcenter.com/manuals/pc/gothic.pdf

For the access violation, the set of patches at https://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1340357-Release-Gothic-%C2%BD-%C2%97-SystemPack-(ENG-DEU) is well-known and recommended in every second forum topic. It fixes more than compatibility mode can do.

And yes, the keyboard controls aren't everyone's cup of tea. The trading interface is even more odd. Ha!

This game is VERY old! You need to get some community patches, and you have to configure your keyboard how you like your controls. I know, in the old days, the rotten developers assumed we wanted to customize the controls to how we like them! I am kidding, I too was perplexed on how to pick items up, but the controls are very typical old school default stuff everybody would change. This game may be before WASD even became the standard lol.

uhhmmm I have played older games with better control systems (doom , daggerfall , arena and many many more) this game is too tough for me because of the controls .I have given up
maybe if the modding community makes a good overhaul I will buy it again for now refunded

https://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1488703-Tool-Gothic-One-Click-Action?p=25357067&viewfull=1#post25357067
It should work for every version, and for all Gothic-mods :)

Hey. How do you make left mouse click the action button? I tried in the settings but it doesn't apply it.
