Farming - Questions about various crop mechanics
I'm going to start a new thread because I bet I generate a lot of farming questions.

After a lot of trial and error, I finally figured out how to use the sickle to clear the grass, then the shovel to cultivate the soil, then utilize the corn/carrot seeds to grow some crops...but is there a way to plant hemp? The hemp buds show a water level when I look at them...but I can figure no way to bury them or plant them. Can they only grow in a planter box?

OK so apparently once you have a hemp bud it will have a number...that's how many seeds it has. The one I was trying without success had a 0. A 0.6 one planted six hemp plants.

Ok so the hemp bud being a 0 is most likely a bug. I'll let the dev know.

I harvested 14 hemp buds on my initial island. The first two I found were 0...the next 12 harvested days later were all 0.6. I'm wondering if these buds mature like fruits.

Does anyone know if fertilizer (made in the compost piles) percentages make a difference for specific crops? I've been trying to get it as close to a 33/34/33 ratio, but I'm wondering if certain crops do better with different percentages. If they do then this game is delightfully deep.

If I have a cultivated plot with 90%+ water and fertilizer why can I not plant carrot seed from the jar?

All that is just the balance of organic compositions. When closer to even will compost faster is all.

Make sure you are cleaning the plot before planting the next seed. If you have and can not still figure it out, it may possibly be a bug.

Thank you for the answer on the balance of fertilizer. Very good to know. I've been enjoying playing around with it and finding out what will and what won't go in the composter. I sure wish green coconuts, used hemp buds, used corn seed cobs, etc. could be thrown in there. If not for compost then why not just a trash bin to get rid of them?

And of the plot that woudn't let me plant...apparently that was a bug. When I reloaded the cleared plants were back on those plots and had to be cleared again. Not a big deal.

The bigger deal bug that I keep running into now is having entire chests disappear - both crafted chests and found crates. One found crated disappeared with all of my "land food", a crafted chest with all my fruit vanished, and most recently an entire crafted chest full of tall grass went poof.

Did they vanish at separate times or all at once? If at separate times, please try and note where they were, what was in them and what you were doing as to try and replicate the issue to find out what's causing it. I've yet to have cheats vanish on me so that's new, but I will keep an eye on mine as well.

The chests all vanished at separate times. Each time I noticed they had vanished after leaving my main island and coming back.

All three were just in an area that a lot of chests. I keep mine segregated in terms of content so that's how I knew they were gone. One was a crafted chest full of whole papayas and bananas. One was a small crate that held all of the various cheeses and bread. And one was a crafted chest that had 30 tall grass in it...it was sitting right next to an identical chest with tall grass that is still there.

Hey, mark. ^^ Question: Are you playing in Experimental or Non-Experimental mode? The reason I ask is that playing in the former, I've had zero success growing corn, & I don't know if it's because it simply doesn't work in that mode, or I'm doing something wrong. :( Since you've got corn cobs to dispose of, I assume you've had success w/ it, so I'm hoping you can help me out.

What happens is this: When my corn hits 50% mature, it gets ears on, but I have no option to harvest them (which I assume would appear as "Break Stem", as w/ the other crops?); the only option I'm given is "Clean Up", which of course only serves to remove the plant w/o netting anything. If I allow the corn to continue to mature, the ears disappear & don't come back.

Just to be clear, I feed & water the plants daily, so they don't suffer from neglect. ^^ And so far, I've tried planting in both partial shade & full sun, w/ the same results.

Any help you can offer will be appreciated. :corn::lunar2020ratinablanket:

I was playing with farming in Experimental. I've moved over to Non-Experimental, but have not farmed in that yet. I had weird issues with some potato plants that sound like yours. My only solution then was to dig up, replant in a different spot and reload. That did help.

Oof. I don't know that I want to go through all that, given how long it takes corn to mature (also, I have only three corn seeds & two potatoes in my current run at this point ^^).

Thanks for the heads up, I'll probably just skip corn for now, & stick w/ carrots & potatoes.
