I'm using a 360 controller, and had the same thing happen when I got this a few days ago. I found a thread online where somebody posted a fix, and it worked perfectly for me. I can't vouch for other controllers. Anyways, big thanks to the user FelixLegend on overclock.net for posting this originally.
Firstly: go to your control panel's devices and printers section, as you need to make sure the exact title of your controller matches what you're about to be copying and pasting. For example, mine shows as "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows" as opposed to "XBOX 360 for Windows."
Next, head to your DMC3 install folder. Open up DMC3SE.ini with notepad. Scroll down to the bottom and paste in the following.
#----------------------------------------------------------------------
[Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1
Be sure to change the part inside the parentheses if yours shows up like mine. After you do that, save the file and fire DMC3 back up. Everything should be working.
You may still want to tweak the mapping in the options menu. I honestly can't remember if I left it as the defaults or not, but it fixed the reversed sticks issue and that's all that really mattered to me.
Hi.Like written parksonian, this is how you need to edit the ini file if you have a 360 controller. However, the triggers won't respond, as the game does not recognize them.
You'll need a program like Joytokey ( http://www-en.jtksoft.net ) to assign the changing guns ( Q key ) and the changing swords ( E key ) functions to the triggers.
Also, as you did not precise the brand of your controller, there is a program called "GPadCfg.exe" located in the game directory which could also greatly help you, if your gamepad is not a 360 one.
"GPadCfg.exe" - dosn't help. Try Joytokey game take input from game pad to.
This worked for me
