Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

Lol Seriously?
I find it funny, I got this and DMC4 in a bundle, almost as soon as I saw it, because I loved playing this on PS2, and wanted to play it again. Then as it was Downloading/installing, I came here to see whats up, and I see tons of people whining about the game is horrid and unplayable etc etc.

I guess everyone that got this has a REALLY old computer then, because mine is no where near awesome (cost about 600$? put it together my self) and it runs this pretty much flawlessly, and can stream it for my friends to watch as well with no performance issues except like once or twice with crowded rooms/screen. And even then it was not super noticeable.

Those of you that don't have it, and have a decent computer, don't be scared off by these guys I'd say, as it was totally worth it to me to get, and am enjoying it thoroughly.

I really don't get why everyone says that even emulated, it's a better game:

The resolution is bad and non-adjustable, some .isos are less agreeable than others. On my dual-core 3.1 ghz, I could play this game at 30-60 FPS (perfectly playable, DMC3 on the PS2 could go down to 40 as well). If I tried emulating it, I would get a fraction of that, even in less intensive fights.

I was actually considering keeping the original DMC3 on my computer so I could record some stupid Doppleganger/Quicksilver stuff with the non-nerfed Super Dante, but, well, the emulated version quite frankly isn't pretty enough, isn't smooth enough, and doesn't run as well as this.

It also doesn't apply the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ filter we see in the DMC HD collection where everything's several tones brighter.

If your emulator is better, please, provide a video so I can view the quality and then some information on where to get it. The version of the game would also be awesome, considering I have all them, it would be nice to know for personal use in case I decide to use any of the discs I've got laying around.

You're probably not very good at the game then. The PS2 version has audio cues and sounds that the other versions don't, which are quintessential aspects of it's design for evading certain attacks. Like the reapers at the start that leap at you make that noise before they come, negating the bad camera and allowing you to do anything from RG to an evasive manuevre.

There were certain times I forget in the HD collection that these were distorted and quietened and omitted. And it just made the game a pain. And DMC3 on emulator is a solid 60fps for me. Get gud. Late Intel i5 + 660, cheap and easy. Mission 5 and it's perfectly smooth.

This is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ port, the performance is horrible and it freezes everytime when you're in combat, i had to play the ps2 emulator version instead!

I figure I would add to this. I got the controller fix working, so I can't complain there. But yeah, for a port it is just sloppy. I've done emulation and let me tell you, while I know screen recording slows it down a little because my CPU though it's 6-core it's still not fast enough to emulate and record while keeping everything in sync, it doesn't completely stop rendering graphics. However this game does, the problem with this game(port) is the port's usage of directx is crappy at best. Thus screen recording is possible but causes directx to screw up and make cutscenes go completely black until I shut Fraps off, then turned it back on. Congrats to the guy who can stream to his buddies, but they obviously have done this port on older, crappier graphics card, that my 7750 just vomits out black from whatever it's doing until I restart Fraps. This is while maintaining 60FPS while Fraps is in recording mode, so it's definitely not my graphics card being unable to handle it, it's the porters/developers not programming for directx properly. Can't explain where they're going wrong, but the simple fact that Xbox360's controller 3rd party or not should work with most directx games since they use xinput at least, this port was obviously made to make a quick buck, using it's name, and not really giving a damn about it's functionality.
