The DMC3SE PC Survival Guide. UPDATED 06/05/2015!
UPDATE! - 21/06/2014, added more information for controls setup on different controllers, users posting these setups credited, removed pretty much all of the rambling to get to the point.

UPDATE 2! - 06/05/2015, added the Style Switcher mod created by serpentiem on NexusMods and it's page to the mod.

The existence for this guide is to help people who bought DMC3SE on Steam to get the game at a playable state.

NOTE : The fixes in this guide may or may not work for you, people have had success with these fixes while others have been hit and miss, I regrettably don't have all the answers and issues not related to the problems brought up in this guide are out of my reach.

So because of this, I ask everyone to use this thread to communicate and try helping address issues one might be having with the game.

So, let's begin!

-FULL SCREEN-

Simple! Just hit alt+enter and you'll be taken into either fullscreen or windowed mode.

-QUIT GAME-

This can be easily achieved by pressing alt + f4, the game should ask if you wish to quit the game after doing so.

-CONTROLLER SETUP-

To go to steam folder \steamapps\common\Devil May Cry 3\DMC3SE.ini

Open with notepad. Delete all the text. Paste in

-Xbox 360 Wired Controller set up-

Copy below

#----------------------------------------------------------------------
[XBOX 360 For Windows (Controller)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1

-Wireless Xbox 360 Controller set up-

Copy below

#----------------------------------------------------------------------
[Controller (XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1

Again, for the left and right triggers you'll need to use Xpadder or a program similar to it and map the left trigger to Q and the right trigger to E.

-Madcatz brand 360 Controller- thanks to Mankle for this!

Copy below

#----------------------------------------------------------------------
[MadCatz GamePad (Controller)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1

-Afterglow Controller for Xbox 360, thanks to Booters for this!-

Copy below

#----------------------------------------------------------------------
[Controller (Afterglow Gamepad for Xbox 360)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1

Now for the left and right triggers you'll need to use Xpadder or a program similar to it and map the left trigger to Q and the right trigger to E.

If you don't have Xpadder, ControlMK is also meant to be a good alternative for binding the left and right triggers.

-WIDESCREEN FIX-

DMC3SE is an old game and wasn't released when 1080p monitors were the rage, understandble but also frustrating, but there's a fix.

Go to this website and download the plugin here http://www.wsgf.org/dr/devil-may-cry-3-dantes-awakening

Speaking from experience, keep in mind that some things like graphics for the combo gauge and possibly button inputs on the screen may move out of place somewhat.

-PERFORMANCE FIX-

DMC3SE is known to have poor performacne on all PCs, this is because of the game's sound files, I'm not sure how they managed to screw up the performance of the game with the sound files.

This also seems to be the only known fix to get better performance.

When you do this make sure to make a copy of the sound folder so should you want all the music in game you can just slap the folder back into DMC3SE's folder.

Most of the important bits of music and sound effects should still be in the game.

To find the sound folder simply go to \steamapps\common\Devil May Cry 3\sound

-STYLE SWITCHER MOD-

I've noticed some people talking about a 'Style Switch' mod which not only introduces the ability to switch Styles on the fly like how you can in Devil May Cry 4 but also adds in a bunch of fixes like being able to adjust the game's HUD, FOV and other sorts of settings.

http://www.nexusmods.com/devilmaycry3/mods/1/?

All credit goes to serpentiem on NexusMods for creating the mod, endorse that guy and give him lots of love.

-OTHER MODS?-

This is a bit of a stretch but surprisingly enough there are a few mods for the game that you can download here,

http://s1.zetaboards.com/InfernalWorks/forum/1659736/

I haven't downloaded any of these my mods myself as it doesn't interest me but if you want to give it a shot, by all means go ahead.

Sooo, there we have it. A little guide to hopefully help some gamers having issues with the PC version of this game, if you'd like me to add anything then please feel free to post a comment on here.

Hope this helps!

I find this ENB Series maded for Resident Evil 4 that also works with DMC3, they mentioned the bloom and good ilumination improvements.

{COLLEGAMENTO RIMOSSO}
tnx for posting it, but what is the link with this bloom mod and the x360 controller button prompts ingame?
I, somehow, don't get where I should put the Widescreen Fix Files, i would be awesome if someone could help me
for some reason no matter what i change my .ini file to my actual keybinds stay the same, ive even deleted all of it and it acts just as it did when i had the settings listed here say and i have no idea why, all my buttons are rotated a place and my start and select are set to change my weapns and devil arms as well as changing the L<->R = 1 to 0 does nothing

i'm using a custom made profile from xpadder and works flawlessy, don't forget to run xpadder, unplug the controller, start the game, plug the controller on the main menu screen, in order to propely work

EDIT: nobody knows where i can find the xbox360 button prompt ingame for DMC3?

Just wanted to say thanks to the OP. This is an awesome guide that fixes the majority of DMC3's problems.
Oh, awesome, I got pinned. :D

Thanks for all the positive feedback, fellas. I honestly kinda thought this guide would only help a few people but then kinda just sink away.

Guess I was wrong. xD!
I got my wired xbox 360 controller to work, the only thing that doesn't work is how i change fighting styles. On the D-pad i just puts up map, inventory and so. I really need this to work, i cant live without swordhandling! :gordon:

This is DMC3, not DMC4.

You can only change styles when you're on that screen where you save and buy items, skills or when you're at those statues with the hour glasses in levels.

You're thinking of DMC4 where you can change styles on the fly.

If you delete everything in your DMC3SE.ini folder and replace it with this. Your controller should work just fine also with the bumpers work as they should normally. Trust me it will work! no need for Xpadder.

Though i dont know if it works for the wireless controller but it will work for the wired models with no problems. :D:

[Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows)]

SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4

L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1
IF your analog sticks are inverted, please read this!!!!!!!!! It was posted in a different section but I thought it should be included here.

I'm using a 360 controller, and had the same thing happen when I got this a few days ago. I found a thread online where somebody posted a fix, and it worked perfectly for me. I can't vouch for other controllers. Anyways, big thanks to the user FelixLegend on overclock.net for posting this originally.

Firstly: go to your control panel's devices and printers section, as you need to make sure the exact title of your controller matches what you're about to be copying and pasting. For example, mine shows as "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows" as opposed to "XBOX 360 for Windows."

Next, head to your DMC3 install folder. Open up DMC3SE.ini with notepad. Scroll down to the bottom and paste in the following.

#----------------------------------------------------------------------
[Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1

Be sure to change the part inside the parentheses if yours shows up like mine. After you do that, save the file and fire DMC3 back up. Everything should be working.

You may still want to tweak the mapping in the options menu. I honestly can't remember if I left it as the defaults or not, but it fixed the reversed sticks issue and that's all that really mattered to me.
Nice thank you very very much =)
