The game is playable, and still very enjoyable if you put tons of work into it, but it is by no means "not a bad port". I was able to get my playable copy by hacking hex codes into the games engine, using a hacked ini file compined with xpadder, and editing and removing various music files which cause the game to lose frames because it has poor audio buffering.
Resolution fix is here
No game lags, really interesting. You must have been very lucky.
Do you think it would be possible for you to tell me what hardware you have, for research purposes? Make sure to include your sound card, I think it may be the biggest culprit of frameskip.
Well look at Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1, 2 and Defiance. All three of those games support AA and high resolutions (not HD resolutions, but high resolutions) and those games came out during PS 1 & 2 times. Not trying to make you look bad, I'm just saying that equally old and older games support this. It's just that at that time Capcom were not good at making PC ports, so yes it actually IS a bad PC port.
A decent port does not have to make you do research just to make the game just pleasable. A bad PC port does. I love the Devil May Cry series and I loved 3 on the PS2, which is why I was willing to make this game work. I can see people who aren't into the series that much hate this port, and it has nothing to do with how difficult the game is.
There's a reason the shadows are like that: it's so you can tell what the enemy position is in relation to Dante when you're off the ground. If you didn't notice, most bosses all have proper shadows.
The HD remake is a bit worse of a port imho.
