Swordmaster. Trickster for certain situations.

Trickster. Always Trickster, until you learn that the most important thing in this game is not to hit,but to not be hit. When you drill that in your head and learn to abuse the invincibility frames in your jumps and rolls you can start switching to swordmaster to fancy your offensives a little bit. Plus, Trickster is useful even for offensive players, with all the added mobility. And don't touch Royal Guard until you learn to 1- pay attention to all enemies on screen and the sound clues of the off-screen ones. 2- get hit so many times that you know exactly which frames are the ones hitting your hitbox.
Matter of fact, you can stay with Trickster for your whole first playthrough.

I used trickster for my whole first 3 playthroughs. The teleportation was really nice.

Yeah trickster is definitely the easiest, I think sword master might be the most fun though. Gunslinger is pretty bad, but has some fun combos and looks cool. Royal Guard was never my thing at all, I barely used it even when maxing it out for completion sake--but you do see some insane perfect guard streaks in combo vids.

I recommend Trickster, it will give you a lot more space and agility to navigate around certain situations.

Since you are new, I will also tell you a mechanical secret, rolling gives you invincibility frames when you first use it, and so does jumping. Try to remember this when you are dodging; doding too early in the game can easily be a death sentance.

Have fun!
