XBOX360 controller fix
EDIT/UPDATE: As this is a pretty old post you might not get it to work this way. There are plenty of comments which help most people fix the problem.

UPDATE[/b:] Harryorlsen posted this link to a potential fix:
Link

After goggling and checking this forum repeatedly for a gamepad fix. The only thing that worked for me was using part of this guide[www.theprohack.com]. Only follow the following steps (refer to the guide if you need pictures)

Install Xpadder from this link[majorgeeks.com]. (Run in vista SP2 compatability mode).

Click on the controller icon to create a new profile and walk through the tabs and enable all buttons on your gamepad.

Go to the finish tab and click close.

And instead of only mapping wasd like the guide tells you to. Just bind all keys to your gamepad like (there used to be a link here which is now dead).

Don't forget to save your profile!

When launching the game keep your gamepad disconnected, otherwise it'll detect your gamepad. Once you've launched the game connect the pad and you'll be able to play.

If you want to change any keys you should be able to do it in the game itself from then on.

Thank you all for providing such great solutions! It's pretty sad that the Devs don't provide this information, or add it themselves (after all, they've ported it to PC, where most people use a 360 controller)

Thanks again!

If you delete everything in your DMC3SE.ini folder and replace it with this. Your controller should work just fine also with the bumpers work as they should normally. Trust me it will work! no need for Xpadder.

Though i dont know if it works for the wireless controller but it will work for the wired models with no problems.

[Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1

Thank you very much! It works fine now :steamhappy:

Thats the point. No need for any tool or something.

The only problem is the Controllername!
Everyone trying this look for the name of controller in your system ;)
Could be "Xbox360 for Windows" or "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" or "Wireless Xbox 360 Controller for Windows". It depens on the Pad and Padrevision itself.
If you don't take the right name for your pad it won't be found.

But one thing remains - The Switch of the analog sticks won't work for me that easy and playing using the right stick isn't really good ^^
This is what worked for me, Thanks man

Embin when I first added the lines from Tobias it did the same as you, then I remembered that the controller name changes with each new version. The new name is "Controller (XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows)" once I changed it the controller worked flawlessly. Try

[Controller (XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows)]
Do you know controller name and conf. parameters for xbox one wireless controller?

To add to this post, things worked for me without using XPADDER.

Alternative for me is to use CONTROLMK.

Same as XPADDER, CONTROLMK can bind LEFT and RIGHT triggers to Q and E respectively.

I only have to start DMC3 first, then CONTROLMK and it worked for me. I have the same lines as Dragarr in my INI as I am using the same type of controller. Sometime the game don't take the motion so I just refresh CONTROLMK's settings (refresh controller list and click the apply button); no need for me to restart DMC3.

Best luck for everybody to make this work. Beside all the PC flaws, this is still a great game that deserve to be played.

How do you know what button correspond to what buttons are on the controller?
Example: Button 4 = Q. But what trigger is that?

I just want to know all the buttons and mapping. This works for me It's just finding out what buttons mean what.

I'm looking for buttons 1 to 9, what letters they mean and what they would equate on my XBOX 360 controller for windows so that I can appropriately map them so I don't have buttons that clash. I'd appreciate the help. Thank you in advance :steamhappy:

It worked. Half of it, one of my pads is bugged like I'm pressing it.

I am posting here because I still ran into issues when applying the fix and there does not seem to be another thread for Xbox One X controllers. Caveats: this fix worked on Windows 10 for an Xbox One X wireless controller and mainly fixes the analog stick and gamepad controls issue.

The .ini fix worked for me - so no need to download extra files - but only with the right controller name.

To find the controller name on Windows 10, search for joy.cpl in the taskbar and hit ENTER. Your controller name should be displayed there. You can verify which controller you are using with the properties button.

Close out of joy.cpl and open the DMC3SE.ini file with a text editor like Notepad at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Devil May Cry 3 and like a lot of other posts suggest, replace all of the original text with the text below and replace CONTROLLER_NAME with the name that appears in joy.cpl. For the Xbox One X controller I was using, that name was: Bluetooth XINPUT compatible input device.

[CONTROLLER_NAME]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 11
R2 = 12
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1

Yup the above posts including Samaeltus', works. My joy.cpl was showing "Controller (Afterglow Gamepad for Xbox 360)" so in DMC3SE.ini it had to be [Controller (Afterglow Gamepad for Xbox 360)] . It has to be exact, including the "Controller" part, which I previously thought was generic.

Gonna share the 2015 method for Xbox Controller Fix. You also need to disable Steam Input to prevent controller mapping conflict.

GPadCfg does not support XInput devices in which it will tell you that the gamepad is not supported so you'll need a 3rd-party app that "converts" an XInput device/Xbox controller into DirectInput.

  1. Download XInput Plus[0dd14lab.net].
  2. Run XInput Plus, click Select on Target Program then browse and select dmc3se.exe.
  3. Go to the DirectInput tab and tick the Enable DirectInput Output.
  4. Click the drop-down button beside LT/RT and select Button 11/12.
  5. Click the drop-down button beside GUIDE and select Button 13.
  6. Click Customize then the drop-down button beside Left Stick-X and select Y_Axis.
    Do this the same for Left Stick-Y and select X_Axis.
  7. OPTIONAL: Click Setting tab then go to Others tab and disable the Enable Init Beep.
  8. Click on Apply button, confirm everything and close XInput Plus. New files will appear in the game folder.
  9. Launch GPadCfg.exe (Gamepad Configuration on Steam), assign the corresponding buttons, click the Reverse icon and double-click the Save icon.
  10. Run the game to test the controls.

If using the Style Switcher mod[www.nexusmods.com], install the mod first before doing this procedure. Also restore the GPadCfg.exe and DMC3SE.ini file from the "_Restore" folder to the game root folder.
