Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

Even more gamepad problems!
Currently I have a PS3 controller hooked up to my computer, normally I have Better DS3 to emulate a X360 gamepad but of course DMC3 doesn't want to work with that. So in Better DS3 I changed it to Xinput, tinkered with the .ini in the game's path and got all the buttons to work correctly.

However the analog sticks are a serious problem, the left stick does absolutely nothing and only 2 directions work in the right stick but they're the wrong ones.

I've already wasted 30 minutes trying to get the buttons to work, can't really think of anything else to fix the analog sticks and I'd rather not use Xpadder to bind the keyboard to the sticks, I'd rather have actual analog control with the damn analog sticks.

As far as I know you will need Xpadder or another keybinder, or the Style Switcher mod (http://www.nexusmods.com/devilmaycry3/mods/1/?) to get the left stick working. At least working with anything that is not the 360 controller.

Well I installed the Style Switcher mod, after running the two necessary installers mentioned on that page and now the game won't even run. What did I do wrong?

You did EVERY step? With a do-it-yourself patch like the SS its the first thing to ask.

Yes. Last night I also took the time to read all the posts on that nexus page and sounded like it only worked after getting the 1.3 patch and a crack -- both steps not mentioned by serpentiem but whatever.

I got the patch and the crack and now the game does run, my gamepad works perfectly... but the mod doesn't work. Or at least, it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all, the screen is still 4:3, the resolution is 1280x960 as opposed to 1920x1080 (like I typed into both the dmc3 & Style Switcher ini files), the BGM still plays and most importantly, I can't switch styles.

Naturally I ran the patcher again but it still isn't doing anything advertised... well, actually, there's one thing it seems to be doing and that's making some of the lighting & glow effects work again, i.e. the purple lights in the first area of Mission 3 and the first Divinity Statue is glowing. If memory serves me, such lights didn't work in the PC version before.

But anyway, nothing else is working, still 4:3 screen, no Style switching, etc. So what the hell did I do wrong this time?

I am sticking with 1.0 for the moment, so if you're having version specific-problems (not that I could know), I cannot help you (uggggh). Do you know if Style Switching is set to off in the .ini files?

Yep, it's on, along with several other settings like the screen resolution, disable cutscenes, disable intro, disable bgm, disable shadows etc, none of those settings do anything.
