Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

Style Switcher problem.
I just installed the Style Switcher mod, but I've run into some problems.

1. There's no music, at all.
2. The X and Y buttons on my Xbox One controller do bugger all in game, despite my having mapped them to Attack and Style Action respectively.

Help?

Which version of the style switcher mod did you install?

Can you post the contents of your styleswitcher.ini and dmc3se.ini files here? That would make pinpointing the problem easier.

I'm using 2.4.3 since I don't know how to update to 3.

I would recommend switching to version 3. I used to have 2.4.3 myself, but then I upgraded when I heard that it fixes all the framerate problems this game has.
This page has install instructions and the changelog for the version 3.0

http://www.nexusmods.com/devilmaycry3/mods/1/?tab=4&&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fdevilmaycry3%2Fajax%2Fcomments%2F%3Fmod_id%3D1%26page%3D1%26sort%3DDESC%26pid%3D0%26thread_id%3D2055289&pUp=1

But if you want to keep this version, then do the following:

From styleswitcher.ini, Set DisableBGMEngine to 0. This will enable music

As for the controller, open dmc3se.ini and delete everything except the:
"
[WINDOW_STATE]
ScreenWidth= 640
ScreenHeight= 480
"

Now, write this over the lines you deleted(without quotation marks):

"
[Controller (XBOX One For Windows)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 255
R2 = 255
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1
"

Assuming that your controller is the official XboxOne controller, this should make it work properly.
However, that is the default button configuration for the controller, and I see that you wanted to change the X and Y buttons to attack and style actions.

To do that, switch the numbers around as desired. for example:

"
[Controller (XBOX One For Windows)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 2
TRIANGLE = 1
SQUARE = 3
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 255
R2 = 255
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1
"

This maps X to attack, Y to style, A to jump and B to guns.

I did a clean install and installed 3, as per the instructions. Far from improving anything, it actually broke the game even more...
1. My controller no longer works at all.
2. As soon as I press ESC, the game goes through the menu automatically, starting a game on Yellow, then displaying the start screen and cutscene for mission 2 before putting me in the Pitch--Black Void.

I think I'll stay away from 3 for now...

Did you create a dmc3de.ini file to the root folder of the game, and paste the controller configurations there?

Also, disable the arcade mode from the styleswitcher.ini. It causes the second problem
OK, all now works fine... But the game KEEPS CHANGING MY BINDINGS. It seems to want to map B to attack, Y to shoot and X to Style Action, irrespective of my actual input.

Try using the default configuration settings:

Circle = 1
Triangle = 3
Square = 2
Cross = 0

Did you use the ingame settings menu when you originally set X to attack and Y to styles?

That would explain all of this.

EDIT: I now realize where the problem was. I told you to change the config to the one that represents your preferred control scheme, when it was actually the default settings that were right.

So yeah, use this:

[Controller (XBOX One For Windows)]
START = 7
SELECT = 6
CIRCLE = 1
TRIANGLE = 3
SQUARE = 2
CROSS = 0
L1 = 4
R1 = 5
L2 = 255
R2 = 255
L3 = 8
R3 = 9
L<->R = 1

It's already late but this may solve answers for future readers who uses Style Switcher v2.4.3.

1. Edit StyleSwitcher.ini and set DisableBGMEngine=0.
2. As I am writing this, I experienced this as well. Even the keyboard bindings won't work.
My solution was to restart my computer to solve the Shoot, Melee and Taunt function problem.

How to reproduce the problem: Modify any changes/content within the DMC3SE folder.
