Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

No cutscene or Cinematics
I'm getting No cutscenes or cinematics , even the intro cinematic is missing . I have not patched the game and I have uninstalled / re-installed multiple times . Still nothing .

How can I fix this ? Googling didn't help much .

Edit : I actually fixed this few hours after posting here myself by downloading k lite codec pack , I downloaded the mega and checked everything , especially the format matching the videos in the main directory of the game while the game is unpatched (.bin / ipu or something , just select everything) and then started the game unpatched and all videos are now playing , prerendered , in game rendered - all of them . Then I patched the game with the starter pack patch and so far things are still going great.

Install these mods, will fix game perfomance and edit the StyleSwitcher with note blocks and put SkipIntro and SkipCutscenes to 0.

This is late but after doing some trial and error at the Vanilla DMC3SE, the pre-rendered cutscenes/cinematics do not appear due to a registry error. To solve the issue, create a .reg file using Notepad with the following:

For x64
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition registry ; *change the "Mov" and "InstallPath" value by placing the address of your DMC3SE game directory. ; *example: "InstallPath"="C:\\Games\\Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\CAPCOM\Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition] "CdKeyVersion"=dword:00000000 "Language"=dword:00000000 "Mov"="<insert DMC3SE game directory here>" "PatchVersion"=dword:00000001 "Subtitles"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\CAPCOM\Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition\1.00.000] "InstallPath"="<insert DMC3SE game directory here>"

For x86
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition registry ; *change the "Mov" and "InstallPath" value by placing the address of your DMC3SE game directory. ; *example: "InstallPath"="C:\\Games\\Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CAPCOM\Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition] "CdKeyVersion"=dword:00000000 "Language"=dword:00000000 "Mov"="<insert DMC3SE game directory here>" "PatchVersion"=dword:00000001 "Subtitles"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CAPCOM\Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition\1.00.000] "InstallPath"="<insert DMC3SE game directory here>"

Save them as .reg files. Select one from x86 or x64 depending on your system then Double-click/Merge, click Yes. If you check your registry with RegEdit, you can see that the registries were added. Run the game and you'll be able to see Capcom intro.

---------------------
Installing Style Switcher mod will also work as well since the mod will not rely on the registry to look for game files but this method is for those who would like to play and stay Vanilla file wise.

does this work for dmc hd collection ? i'm facing the same problem .

if yes , then where is the .reg file in the dmc hd collection game directory ? if you mean running it normally the .reg file normally outside of the game directory , then yes . i've done that but the intro still won't play .

Of course, this is NOT for HD Collection.

But for HD Collection if you have DDMK installed, you probably enabled Skip Intro/Cutscene option or the main video files are missing so try to do a File Verification.

i think i have all the files installed . i don't have DDMK installed . if there's something else not playing , it's the video where dante kicks the screen , intro for mission 1 and the game over video . really sorry for the late reply though !

If you have Style Switcher installed, make sure that "SkipIntro" is disabled or set to 0.

I forgot the video files but GuroP is for the Dante kick screen. I'll check them later
NAIYANG Jan 21, 2024 @ 1:34am
i don't have style switcher or any mods installed . before i encountered this problem , GuroE is my dante kick screen iirc !
ProjectXsent Jan 21, 2024 @ 1:43am
Ahhhh I think I see the problem now. The registry to locate the cutscene has problems.

Install this and locate the DMC3 folder from Steam. This will fix the registry.

EDIT:
Just now, I am experiencing what you're experencing and I'm not sure if it's because of the Windows Update but before it didn't happen to me.

My solution is if the cutscenes still do not appear after the registry fix, Run dmc3se.exe as Admin. I got the Ubisoft/Capcom intro afterwards.

EDIT2: I figured out the problem. It was due to Registry Virtualization.

Somehow I found the DMC3SE Registry Key
(HKEY_USERS\<User SID>_Classes\VirtualStore\Machine\Software\WOW6432Node\CAPCOM\Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition)
existed and "Mov" string value showed that the path was on my Downloads folder. I deleted the entire "CAPCOM" key and tested running the game again. It worked and I didn't need to Run it as Admin.

i did the 1st suggestion , it didn't work ... i couldn't find the registry key though, unless if you meant the file path .

also , i do not have dmc3se , i only have dmchdcollection , sorry that i forgot to mention omg

edit : i was playing on a pc which i formatted . when i launched the game for the first time , the cutscenes were fine . i played a little , then closed to replace the new save file with my old one ( it has more stuff ) and then this problem happened . i think this could be the problem as well . reinstalling the game from steam didn't work btw .

That is indeed weird since you stated that you have all the files.

Also the FMVs you mentioned were (assuming you're playing in English language):
Dante kick screen: GuroE.wmv
M1 Intro: m01_s00.wmv
Game over: GameOver.wmv

Which can be found in "(DMC HDC)\data\dmc3\Video"

( screenshot of the \Video file )

assuming that other mission intros have " m[n] " in the file name where n = 1 , 2 until 20 , i think i do have missing files . but i have zero idea why the files would be missing in the first place

No, the FMVs were complete. As to why they do not appear in the game, I don't know.
