Suggestions for more RPG interactions
Despite a few bugs I'm enjoying the experience playing as a small time commander in the bigger picture. But rather than harping on the bugs I wanted to offer some suggestions that could provide more depth to the roleplaying experience.

As the commander of a unit I'm thinking that there really needs to be more interaction to influence the condition of your men. As the commander in chief it makes sense to have units train automatically while in camp to avoid micromanagement, but at lower ranks we should be able to directly influence that training. My unit has three stars and is not even half way to gaining a perk. If I want to train line infantry to become Zouaves or train my line cavalry to become raider cavalry, we should have some direct influence on whether that comes about rather than just relying on administration skill and letting the unit gain a perk after X amount of experience. Maybe if we can adopt certain training styles for our unit we can accomplish that much easier. I mean, Mosby's Raiders didn't have to go through 20 battles to become partisan raiders and the Louisiana Tigers didn't have to go through 20 battles to become Zouaves. That's just what they were when the units were instated. Give us a chance to stick out like that in a reasonable amount of time.

There should also be more interactions between yourself and other commanders. Right now you have a relations value but it's not very meaningful because you can't really directly influence your relations with other commanders besides the card actions, your characters values, and your battle performance (I'm guessing). What about having a chat, sending correspondence, sharing a drink, doing joint exercises, hosting a Christmas feast for the men or a private dinner with the other CO's? What about having officer events where you can actually use those avatar items like the cigar box, the flask? The only interaction with avatar item's that I've come across so far is that your horse dies in battle if you're unlucky.

The actions mechanic is a good idea for permanent upgrades to your character, it's not so good for one time events like exercising to lose weight. The restrictions on how many actions you can take based on rank doesn't make much sense to me either. If I want to exercise why can't I exercise with my men as they drill? Why does camp life necessarily mean I'm sitting around doing nothing and getting fat? What about when we go on leave? No one asking how the war is going and no choice to respond in a way that potentially affects national morale? Wouldn't a well renowned officer making a statement about the war while he's on leave be an interesting scandal? or perhaps it's just what my home state needed to get a boost in volunteers and support for the war? It would also be interesting to receive letters from your family or friendly commanders who retell their own exploits in battles that we don't personally participate in.

well I thought what the game is missing is the ability to interact with men - set drills, exercise, spend money to buy powder so they can practice shooting - especially for winter camp

One big missing thing is supply management and organization, some options/settings similar to your food bar but regarding the regiment would be mostly welcome. From setting rations, ( low morale but in good supply?? extra rations!, etc) to training intensity, and such. Its regimental commander mode, and we do very little commanding

Another is interaction with other officers, from fellow regimental commanders to higher-ups.

For fellow officers, I would love the ability to organize joint exercises when encamped, get a card night.

What I am missing most is the game offering you new command when you have fame/rank:

YOu got some fame/influence: Ai creates new corps/division - offer you command. YOUr division leader got wounded - and you just distinguished yourself? well why not check if you want it?

And there is one last thing : request to command - spend influence to get extra recruits, transfer unit to another army/division, hell spend influence to help fellow officer get promoted for extra friend points?
