Cannot build parapets or breastworks in battle

Union Spring 1861 campaign. Started a battle and realized I couldn't lay out any breastworks or parapets. I tried doing it without any units selected and also tried doing it from the interface with a brigade selected. When I right click and drag, the sound effect plays but there is no graphic of a parapet or breastwork. I thought, maybe they're just invisible, so I ordered a brigade to the general area where the breastwork would be and it said they were constructing. Again nothing showed up - it was invisible.

I tried to manually retreat from battle. When I finally did, I got stuck in the battle result screen and couldn't go back to the campaign map.

I had an issue with an in battle save where breastworks completed before the save were not indicated on the map upon loading. Some of the units located in the breastworks still indicated they were under cover, some didn't, and it didn't seem like I could get units to occupy them where they had been. I haven't sent a save yet but I could. I've continued the battle since my save was near the end of day 1, I was able to reconstruct the breastworks and they seemed to work. Had to save in battle again and haven't checked to see if the breastworks were retained in the save (darn work responsibilities).

How do breastworks and parapets work? I've tried using them, and like OP I get nothing. Is there a certain sequence of events you have to do?

I'll try to describe what l do for breastworks. Select breastworks when a unit is not selected. Lay BW left to right. Start line at left with RMB. Change direction of BW line with RMB. Double click RMB to end BW line. Then select one of more brigades to construct the BW by selecting the brigade and RMB on the planned BW line. Only infantry can construct. No guarantees that is the absolute correct way.

In the upcoming patch notes you mentioned that this problem was specific to the Chancellorsville map. I just want you to know that I was having the exact same issue over and over again on the Munfordville map when fighting around Kentucky and Tennessee.

Do you have any engineering points to spend? If you don't have points, (should be a display on the lower right of your screen,) you can't construct them without assigning a unit to do the actual building.
