Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865)

Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865)

Cant save, load or quit game (0.8710)
I'll start off by saying that I loaded a campaign from the previous development patch (0.8705). One month passed by, I tried to save the game but clicking on a new save or overwriting an old save doesn't work. Loading a new campaign from within my campaign also doesn't work.

Edit: Starting a new campaign resolved the issue. So I guess the new dev patch isn't compatible with previous versions.

I confirm this is happening in my old saved game as well. I just patched the game to 0.8710 and I cannot save the game, now can I exit the game. Also worryingly the campaign date is not increasing at all either. I've just put the speed on x50 and the date remained on Jan 9th 1962. Will try a few tests.

After a few tests with new patch and my old saved game I can confirm that the game runs for a few days. But if I try to save it seems not to save, and I cannot exit either. After that the top menu with the date and resources seems to stop updating entirely. The rest of the game works but the top bar effectively freezes.

I have also seen that my old saved games are being removed from the saved game list one by one, down to two now from around six before. Finally the game does still seem to be saving games. I've seen about six saves from today alone in the files of the program. But it seems the game cannot seem to recognise them as that arent appearing in the saved game screen.

So I think the OP is possibly correct, that the new patch is not compatible with old saved games. Looks like I might have to scrap my old game and restart from fresh.

Confirm this is happening for me as well. My current save game was working fine, but it freezes any time a battle tries to load. Closing the game out and reloading worked once, but the second time my save was gone.
Started a new campaign and it works ok. Looks like the old saves are indeed not compatible.
Can you submit such an old save pls (could be version specific). Will check compatibility. Thx!
I can confirm this with 0.8710). I've tried multiple older save games from different campaigns and they load fine but after that I can neither save the game nor quit the game anymore.

Fresh campaigns seem to work fine (only tested this briefly though).

Edit: Okay, I looked up the save files and the game is saving "something". It creates a new folder for the save like normal, but in that folder there are only a fraction of the files that are in the folders of "normal" save games.

Edit2: Saving during a battle that already started during the older Dev Patch still works. Probably because it uses the old "world state" of the strategic map and writes that into the new save file, but trying to save after returning to the strategic map doesn't work anymore. Likewise starting a new battle leads into an eternal loading screen, presumably because the world state of this slightly older save game can't be saved anymore with the 0.8710 version.

I am also have problems with crashes when I try to fight a battle. I have verified the game several times. It was running fine last night and then I noticed all my armies, despite the fact that they were all still in Confederate territory had no supply. I decided to close the game without saving. Now, the game will not let me fight any battles and I am still seeing the supply problem.

We have changed supply functionality during the last builds. So you need to take more care of your supply routes and construct more supply depots. To help evaluate supply shortages we have added a new filter.

Regarding the crashes: do you have the output_log.txt of such a session pls?

Thanks for you prompt reply. I moved Lee's army from Fredericksburg back to Richmond and they still had no food. The depot there was undamaged. As for the output log.txt, I am fairly computer illiterate, how do I find that?

Thanks again for the response.

I suspect that this is also part of the saving problem. As far as I can guess from looking into the save files the game basically "saves" your game, when you enter a battle, so it can return you on the strategic map after the battle at the same point only with the result of the battle playing out. Since saving the strategic map doesn't work right now, if you playing an older campaign, the battles can't be loaded properly.

I sent them two of my save games, maybe it helps.

That is my experience with the new patch also.
I hadn't played since 3/6, but downloaded the new patch and loaded the last campaign save. Couldn't save or exit the game.
Had a similar issue. I couldn't "resume" an existing save, though could load from the "new campaign screen." After finishing the battle in the save, I got stuck on the end-battle videos and the campaign map is inaccessible. Happy to submit the old save if you need it, not sure how to do that though.
Similar experience. Moved from .8705 to .8710 in the midst of a saved battle. Casualties up to the point of loading the game with .8710 were 12,000 for the enemy, 1,000 for me. Upon loading, about 1/3 of my army newly showed up as broken (up to the point of the save, it had been a total rout in my favor). Battle ended (my army broke). Went to campaign screen and after about a week of campaign time, I moved different, fully supplied armies that had been sitting still for 3+ months to battle. I couldn't save the game. Went to manually fight battle, and it just "loaded" indefinitely.

Is this just an issue with saved games or is this on all campaigns now? Hopefully this can get resolved rather quickly. This version (.8710) seems unplayable with previously saved games. (woops, now I see the original heading. This patch only makes earlier saves unplayable. Ok. That's too bad but not the end all be all..

Yes for me it was just my old saved game that didnt work, my new campaign that I started after installing the patch seems to be ok.
