All the saves files are stored on your hard drive, and can be copied to another device.
You can find your local campaign save files in the game’s install folder, by following this path:
\Grand Tactician The Civil War (1861-1865)\Campaigns\001\X\
Where the X is the campaign scenario A-E. A = Spring 1861, B = Summer 1861, C = Spring 1862, D = Spring 1863, E = Spring 1864.
The save files are found in their own folders:
Save = automatically saved progress, the autosave. The game automatically saves progress as per setting in options menu. The automatically saved game is always in the folder “save."
Save DD_MM_YYYY_HH_MM_SS = manually saved progress, with the folder name formed using time of saving: Day_Month_Year_Hours_Minutes_Seconds.
Within this folder, there may be a sub-folder called Battle. In this case this is a battle save.
The files you are looking for are:
DLC_WL.dat > this contains information of your character, the attributes being on the top of the file.
regiments.dat > contains strength info of all units currently active within the saved campaign.
nations.dat > contains info about support levels. Unfortunately this file only tracks the changes to the scenario’s main nations -file, and finding what line controls which info is not simple… Adjusting the scenario’s main -file (in the scenario folder, not the save folder), will probably be easier, but this affects not only the one save, but all campaigns.
The files can be opened with Notepad for example and edited/saved. Do notice, that any error in the contents of the files will lead to game failing to load or massive errors. For this reason, it’s always a good idea to backup any save file you are about to edit. Finding a certain data element to edit is not simple, as we never really meant the save files to be edited by hand. But it’s possible…
