cold steel not working?
I've been trying to use cold steel - using melee cavalry charges, at key moments, or to chase down routed units. It seems never to work, they always get in firing range then fire.

What I'm doing is selecting the cavalry orders, making sure cold steel is highlighted, then left clicking to attack. idk why but I tried double left clicking as well. Can't seem to get them to charge.

Am I doing something wrong?

select cav unit - alt and right click on target. If the target moves you may have to repeat

Ive been having the same problem with melee not working. The unit closes with the enemy and you hear the sound of melee combat but not combat results.

Well, no not really. But that Cold Steel button on the cavalry flyout has never really worked. The alt-right click was a work around that works way better than the button.

Correct. Just be prepared to keep clicking if you're pursuing.

what i've found is that if your melee BEGINS when the enemy is already routing then your units will barely do anything. however if the enemy morale is failing and then you get multiple units to charge them in melee, you have a good shot of getting the enemy brigade to surrender.

I want to preface this by saying i don't use the cold steel button very little, but i think this is more of a "fix Bayonets and make ready to charge" command. and just like movement commands i think you have to allow time for the order to arrive and the brigade to "fix bayonets" i don't think that the button is instant
