Request to change default weapons range

Currently, the default weapon range for the player is mid-range.
The default range for the AI appears to be long-range.
In battle before you engage I find myself having to change the set range to long range for all my Infantry. This is handled at Command level, so you have to wait for couriers to come from army command to corps or division level then on to your individual brigades.
This can cost your unnecessary casualties, sometimes heavy casualties as your brigades stand there getting shot at without reply because your default range is medium while AI almost always marches up and opens fire with its brigades at long range.
I don't know how may times I've looked at my brigades and gone - 'wait why aren't you firing, oh crap your at mid range' and you lose more men while waiting for the orders to filter down from on higher Command to go to long range.
Personally, I've never needed to concern myself with going to lower range settings. If you want to get closer for more damage I simply give a move order to get the brigade as close as I want using the double-time command. In the heat of combat its much easier and convenient when engaged in large scale battles.
I don't know how many times I simply forget to change the range settings before battle.
It;s gotten to the point of being really frustrating and I don't see a need from a game play standpoint of a default mid-range set.
Any one else have this problem or feel a change is needed?

Yeah, I have ask for this as well, but apparently medium is supposed to be the default. Why the AI isn't using it then...I don't know.

The AI should be set to mid to if not already, Ive assumed it had been. Long range tends to burn ammo.

And again, solid no thanks from me on this. Long range fire is a waste of ammo. I've never lost a battle because the AI decimated my forces at long range. I've lost several when I ran out of ammo.
