I don't get the Joseph love

Honestly, I don't get the Joseph love. Yes, he's humanised and was pushed into a life he didn't want, but he's also a manipulative creep who preys on your Dadsona, a grieving husband letting go of his kid and trying to establish himself beyond that, he's sent Robert further down into the dark spiral you find him in and is AWFUL to (and clearly gaslights) Mary, whose only outlet is to retalite in public to bring down his pristine image and the lie of their marriage and is having a negative impact on his kids (the kids are clearly imitating his behaviour without knowing how to hide it in their demenour)

In canon, Joseph is clearly bad news, yet some fans are stacked agasint Mary or want to redeem him or spin him in a positive light, when he's out and out a toxic bastard grasping as things he can't have because he's dissatisfed with his lfie and doesn't care who he hurts, regardless.

I get the excitment of it, the thrill of it. It's fiction, etc, etc, but when you actually see people defending his character, it's a bit beyond me how he's represented as nothing short of a prick and the implication that if Joseph doesn't get with you, he'll move on to someone else (like Craig, Brian or Damien).

Eh, Robert at least is shown have some positive qualities and owns up to his ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and is a deeply damaged self-destructive soul. I don't personally consider his playthrough 'canon' personally - would you really pursure him when you have a daughter? But it's a game and I get it, you wanted the bad boy :)

Im not going to lie and say i understood anything of what you just said, but story is always left up to interpretation. I for one love Joseph. I don't see him as a prick or douche or whatever you might say you see him as. I see him as a dad struggling to keep his family together, while still finding himself, because he perhaps, has lost sight of who he is with everything going on in his life. Having 4 kids and an alcoholic wife, while clearly struggling to find happiness in fathering and ministering to the youths at his church. He oviously started to grow lonely as he grew more and more distant from his wife and he struggled to act friendly and forward the anyone and everyone possible, grasping on to the possibility that someone might, just might, help to fill the void in his heart that his wife no longer fills. He was able to find the feeling of being needed by the character you play as. Obviously, he makes mistakes by cheating on his wife and developing feelings for anyone other than her and might not have ever treated Robert the way he might deserve, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he creates a "lost and lonely puppy" vibe that many people are drawn to, myself included. You are allowed to disagree in the interpretation of the kind of character he really is, but thats just my opinion, and my own personal interpretaion. Hope this answers your question of how someone could like Joseph!

I kinda found it hard to play this game after finding out about that.

It was Joseph. But that secret ending isn't considered canon so far I know.

Im still very confused on this issue between Joseph and Robert. I remember back when he game came out, I wasnt too interested in Robert so i was seeing the rumors before i played. Once I did, I was super confused. I dont really see any connections besides Mary. I cant remember it much now since its been a while, but still.

I also dont get what you mean by "preys on your dadsona" or "grieving husband hwo let go of his kid". If you mean the baby who isnt shown in the game, its not the baby is dead. They just didnt know where the baby was at the time of the barbecue because Mary was outside drinking instead of caring for him. Obviously, if the chid was dead, there would be something more about it. It was just a joke really, and used to point out Mary's alcoholic tendencies. If hats not what you mean by grieving then im confused.

For the preying part, I dont think he was using or being manipulative at all. He found a friend who obviously cared for him in a way no one else in his life was, and he was feeling lost. I think its natural if you find someone who makes you feel open and happy that you want to hang out with them more. There wasnt a scene in the entire game where he was hurtful towards Mary. he didnt mock her or talk about hating her, he even says he wants to fix their marriage because he still cares for her. In the good end, its "good" because he refuses to let anyone get hurt anymore, he lets you down and he tells Mary the truth and that he wants to fix things. He knows his impact, and hes ready to face the truth and make thigns right.

Whats funny is, I was really dissatisfied with Josephs playthrough and ending. He was the one I was most excited to play, and it actually let me down. I dont think Joseph is a bad person, from the canon story of the game.

Joseph is the blonde dad. He doesnt have a real secret ending, people found assets and such in game files that suggested there couldve been one that maybe got scrapped or they wanted us to find it in the files and be spooked, some people suggested it was for a halloween update. Someone took the script, images, etc. and put it into Renpy(free visual novel creating software) and made what its believed to be like.

The "secret ending" also turned me off. I had already bought the game, and i didnt enjoy Josephs ending, so it made me feel worse about it. I took a break and came back to the game, and i had a lot of fun with the others sories, especially Damiens and Hugos.

More people hate Joseph than love him. He doesn’t prey on “grieving dadsona”, if Joseph preyed on him then all the other dads did as well. Joseph is NOT responsible for Robert or Mary’s bad behavior. Robert and Mary are raging alcoholics, Robert is a bad father, Mary neglects her kids and sexually harasses any guy she can get her hands on. But that’s ok because she’s a woman so it’s funny. Joseph isn’t gaslighting her, and I don’t know where you got that idea from. If you’ve played Robert’s route then you know that if you go with him on the first night he uses you and then rejects you and you get his bad ending. But that’s ok because Robert can do whatever he wants and the fandom will still support him. Mary can go out getting drunk and going after guys all night, but she’s just so fun and relatable lol! Joseph is the primary caregiver for his kids, and if you played his route, you’d know he’s a great father and the twins like to play up the evil twin thing because it’s funny. Christie is adorable. Joseph has been getting crapped on from the very beginning by Robert and Mary fans, and he doesn’t deserve it.

I also hate Joseph. He is the only character in the whole game which I didnt like. More - I despise him. I finished the romance only to have all the achievements. But it did not make me joy and it only enraged me. Any other romance option is better. Dads are warm, sweet, real and you can see that they care about us. Even Robert who doesnt date with us in the end. Jospeh is type of person which I wont meet in real life :/

Mary implies that she has a close relationship/understanding with Robert so I could see it being a thing... but I've gotten both Robert and both Joseph endings at this point and didn't notice anything...except for some comment about a sweater??

Robert confronts you on Joseph's third date before the Yacht. Based on what you've said it might only happen if you go on dates w/ Robert.

Yeah he's kind of a ♥♥♥♥. He married a woman because of all these stupid religious ideas in his head, but really the religion seems more like a hobby than something he attempts to live up to.

That said, is he even gay? Straight guys make the worst gay guys, honestly. To them it's just free sex without all the nonsense you have to go through to get women to ♥♥♥♥ you, an arrangement between buddies, or even strangers. There's some guys who aren't emotionally or socially "gay", they're just in it for the ♥♥♥♥. Ask me how I know. Yeah I wouldn't recommend straight men as partners, they're not a fantasy, they're awful and really don't get the whole falling in love with men thing. It's more or less a fetish.

Hence why Joseph just wants to hook up on his boat and nothing else. Staying with his wife and being miserable together because they think the community gives a ♥♥♥♥ about them, that the community don't know she's an alcoholic slut and he's a non-alcoholic slut for ♥♥♥♥. I dunno, life can be hard on people, but still some people just make terrible decisions.

I might try Robert out next time. Did the one-nighter. Coffee guy seems extremely boring. Goth dude is probably a laugh. Americans really didn't get "goth" so for them it's more like pretending they're Vincent Price and frowning all the time. And having goth shops in the mall. And going to them. I dunno, could be a laugh. The insect thing makes me think maybe he kills people in his spare time, then probably ♥♥♥♥♥ the corpses. Wearing a ridiculous cape and listening to organ music.

I agree he's my least favourite. The devs seem to love him due to the character development and content dedicated to him, (Secret ending). You can call him toxic and ♥♥♥♥. But to me he's just a basic annoying twink 100% agree with Robert.
