What's up with Mary?
The scene where Mary freaks out at the bar seems very strange. And the character response options are bizarre too. Both Mary and the player character are acting like you're having a secret affair with Joseph, but at the time this conversation takes place you've literally only seen him three times: at the neighborhood BBQ, selling brownies at church, and being a chaperone...at church.

The whole scene just feels weird and forced.

I think they have done that on purpose. As you are technically dating a married man, and Mary isn't stupid, she probably knows that you two are going out together and thats making Jo happy. When he should be taking time with his family he keeps seeing your character. I think its a realistic life occurance where you have a failing marriage and then in comes a new person that gets the attention of one of the married couple. It is clear through the story lines that Mary and Jo are not having a great relationship, so it isn't unreasonable for Mary to be upset.
There's nothing in the actual story to support that though.

His job is to host these church events. Both "dates" are just volunteering at church events. But Mary freaks out as though she's been spying on you making out in a broom closet or something, and instead of there being any dialogue choices like, "hey lady, I just watched some 12 year olds drink punch" the only choices are even more incriminating than anything you've actually done at that point in the game.

The whole scene just feels super out of place. No one would act like that, and no one would react like that. I've certainly never just agreed with someone that accused me of something I didn't do, then blame the thing that never happened on the accuser...

We know Mary isn't totally insane. She is best friends with the guy that actually DID sleep with her husband, but you go to bake sale and suddenly she's bonkers? I don't buy it.

Yes, the game's reality does not, I agree, however, I myself got the impression that it is our character itself which already 'fantasizes' about Mary's husband at that point, or something around that corner. After all, going to dates with dads always symbolizes getting to know them, learning new things about them and growing attached. Dependent on one's choices in the beginning, the main character is a gay man, an anxious and insecure one, as we get to know him, so while he grows attached to Mary's husband during the 'dates', he is aware of Mary and the situation of himself.

I do agree with you that her reaction was very strong, maybe she was drunk, maybe she considers the main character inferior to herself and doesn't want to believe that her husband would have an interest into him. She also said something like "You aren't his type" or something, which could support this idea.

If you play through with the other Daddies, you'll get a better sense of Mary. Also, Joseph is shown to be a manipulative creeper throughout his play through, preying on your vulnerability.

If you take into consideration the secret ending, and think about it as if she's trying to warn you, it makes a little more sense as well.

Secret ending isnt canon though. Its more than likely just a gag, especially due to how Arin reacted to fans finding it.

Playing through the other dads, I dont understand Mary. She feels like a new person every playthrough, which makes her unlikeable to me. She feels llike shes just whatever they needed her to be in that playthrough, less like shes an actual character.

This perception of Joseph is also your opinion. Its not definite, its just how you see him, and honestly, the way joseph acts doesnt really matter in this scene.

Conner can call Joseph a manipulative creeper all he wants but it doesn’t mean it’s true. And Joseph spends way more time with his kids than she does.

Mary is drunk and lashing out, even though dadsona’s “dates” with Joseph are nothing but chaste. Mary and Joseph don’t have a good marriage, because Joseph is a closet homosexual, or at least bisexual. Maybe he feels guilt because he’s religious, didn’t know he was gay until later, or didn’t want to acknowledge it. Either way it doesn’t seem like they believe divorce is an option so they stay in the relationship, and deal with it in their own ways. Mary likes to go out drinking every night and doesn’t do much for her kids, and Joseph takes care of the kids and church functions, with flings on the side. The cult ending isn’t canon, so it’s not because of that.
