You do know that highschoolers do date one another, right? They've been doing it for quite a while.
Less than 13% of the population of the US is highschool aged. Do you think less than 13% of dating sims feature highschool aged characters?
Also, are you saying that everyone who plays a game has to be the same age as the protagonist? Same sexual orientation and gender, too?
And Japan has some deeply troubling issues with women and age.
I'm saying that when you look at the aggragate there is an unusually high number of dating sims that focus on highschool students.
Also, if you discount the dating games and look at the games that focus purely on sex, there's a much, much wider range of locations, settings, and age groups represented.
