Basing your perception of the lgbt gaming community on the individuals who talk about it on the steam discussion boards is a terrible idea. I know that I personally used Steam for several years before ever bothering to make a discussion board post. There are a lot of people with opinions who don't care to engage in the community, but use Steam as a purchasing platform.
There are also a lot of closted gamers who would happily use the anonymous nature of digital distribution platforms to purchase LGBT friendly games. Getting accurate numbers on LGBT people is hard because sexuality is a continuous spectrum, not a hard categorization, and due to social pressures many people are afraid to announce exactly where they are on it unless it's on one of the extreme ends of that spectrum. On a mostly anonymous digital distribution platform, however, you don't need to out yourself in order to buy a game, and developers would do well to realize that they can reach niche markets through platforms like Steam.
I never even finished Hatoful Boyfriend, normally I can't stand VN format but the characters in DD ADDS are just... so charming.
I'm actually seeing a lot more of this lately, which is great. I like just running around without assumptions about my gender and sexuality.
Also, if a character is LGBT it should be mentioned canonically if it's not jarring, but that doesn't mean you have to make a brouhaha about it. A party member should be able to mention her past girlfriend without "WHAAAT YOU HAD A GIIIIRLFRIEND!" and the like. Representation without 'othering.'
Anyways, I've seen several games with some of these options appearing lately, and I love it.
This person just wants your money. They dont care about you.
Otherwise they wouldn't talk like a d ick.
They sound like the classic old guy trying to 'fit in' and be chummy with the teens.
At the same time they dont want anyone to get the impression they themselves are gay
Ok now I just need to talk about this:
I'm aware this guy is probably just a troll, and he's banned anyways but I think he has a point. Lately, with all that Joseph mess, I've been feeling like this game is more of a big joke than a serious thing like the developers said it was.
I could be wrong on this, but his character turning out to be like the actual devil and that thing with the dads all being one of the seven deadly sins doesn't sound like something from a cute dating sim about dads who love eachother, unless you think of it as a joke y'know???
I really hope there's some sort of twist in which the cult thing is just some homophobic devil which you have to fight in the end of the game and then idk you just end all homophobia and transphobia in the whole world and hook up with some secret surprise dad or whatever, because if it's not the case I think I'd feel like I've wasted my money really :'0
